The first images from the upcoming Netflix heist film, Here Comes the Flood, have been released. The movie brings together acclaimed actors Denzel Washington and Robert Pattinson. Pattinson recently mentioned during an interview for his film Die My Love that he began filming Here Comes the Flood “this week in New York.”

Directed by Fernando Meirelles, known for his work on City of God, and written by Simon Kinberg, who penned The Martian, Here Comes the Flood is an unusual heist film. The story centers around a bank guard, a teller, and a thief caught up in a dangerous web of deception and betrayal.

The film stars Robert Pattinson and Academy Award winner Denzel Washington (known for films like Glory and Training Day). BAFTA nominee Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People), who also appeared in Where the Crawdads Sing (2022) and Twisters (2024), joins the cast. The ensemble is rounded out by Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead), Sean Harris (Mission: Impossible), Moises Arias (Fallout), and Emmy nominee Justin Kirk (Angels in America).

Robert Pattinson and director Fernando Meirelles are both familiar faces on Netflix. Pattinson previously appeared in films like The King (2019) and The Devil All the Time (2020), while Meirelles directed The Two Popes (2019) for the streaming service.

With Here Comes the Flood, both Denzel Washington and Daisy Edgar-Jones are making their acting debuts in a Netflix film. Washington has previously worked with Netflix as a producer on films like Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (2020) and The Piano Lesson (2024), but this is his first time starring in one of their movies.

The film Here Comes the Flood has gone through a few shifts recently. Originally, Jason Bateman was planned to direct in 2021, and Robert Downey Jr. was at one point considered for a part. However, the current version still uses the first screenplay written by Simon Kinberg.

The movie Here Comes the Flood is currently being filmed in New Jersey and is expected to finish shooting by January 2026. If everything stays on schedule, it should be available to stream on Netflix in late 2026.
