Guillermo del Toro Praises Osgood Perkins’ Keeper in New Final Trailer

Osgood Perkins, the director of Longlegs and The Monkey, is back with a new horror film coming out later this month. The final trailer for Keeper has been released, and acclaimed horror directors like Guillermo del Toro and James Wan are already calling it a standout movie.

The movie Keeper will be released in theaters on November 14, 2025, and stars Rossif Sutherland and as Liz and Malcolm, a couple who retreat to a remote cabin for a romantic anniversary getaway. When Malcolm returns to the city, Liz is left alone and soon discovers the cabin holds dark secrets, as an ominous presence begins to reveal them. Director Guillermo del Toro has described Keeper as “pure Perkins” and praised its intricate, self-referential style, calling it “horror origami.”

James Wan, known for creating popular horror franchises like Saw and Insidious, also loved Perkins’ new movie, describing it as a frightening and unsettling journey into insanity.

Damien Leone, the director and special effects artist behind films like All Hallows’ Eve and the Terrifier series, praised Keeper. He said the film proves that director Ryan Perkins is a rising star in the horror genre. Keeper continues Perkins’ streak of successful horror movies, following releases like Gretel & Hansel (2020), Longlegs (2024), and The Monkey, which came out earlier this year.

The new film by Osgood Perkins is being described as a disturbing and unsettling experience. While the exact plot details are still secret, the trailer suggests a creepy and isolated story, filled with hidden dangers and violence in a remote cabin setting.

Whether Keeper can match the success of Perkins’ previous films remains to be seen. Longlegs is currently his biggest hit, earning $128 million at the box office. He also had a financially successful adaptation, made with a budget of just over $10 million, which grossed over $68 million when it was released in February.

Perkins Reunites with The Monkey Star for Keeper’s Intimate Horror Story

Later this month, the film Keeper will be released in theaters, marking the second time this year that actress has worked with . She previously played Lois Shelburn, the mother of Hal and Bill, in The Monkey. Interestingly, even though Keeper is being released after The Monkey, it was filmed during a pause in production on The Monkey caused by the 2023 Hollywood strikes.

Many of the original cast and crew were now in Canada and seeking new jobs, so Perkins teamed up with Canadian writer Nick Lepard to develop the film. Because the project wasn’t bound by Writers Guild of America rules, they were able to hire Canadian actors and crew who could temporarily waive their union membership, allowing filming to continue. Perkins has described the movie as being made quickly and spontaneously – a small, quirky, and personal film focused on just two characters.

Keeper arrives in theaters on Nov. 14.
