Sydney Sweeney recalls being told to ‘fix her face’ aged just 16 by a cruel casting director as she reveals her ‘awful’ audition experiences

Sydney Sweeney shared a painful memory of a casting director telling her, when she was only 16, that she needed to ‘fix her face’.

During an appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark on Tuesday, the 28-year-old actress, known for her upcoming role in the movie Christy, shared stories about her difficult audition experiences.

During a conversation with Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, Sydney discussed what it was like to grow up as a performer and shared details about the new movie about her life.

She explained that she began acting at a young age and experienced many unsuccessful auditions. She recalled instances of casting directors being unprofessional during auditions, like eating chips while she was performing.

It’s really upsetting to be told to change your appearance, especially when you’re only sixteen. Growing up isn’t always easy, but you can still find joy in the process.

‘You are going to get told no way more than you are going to be told yes.’

Kelly emphasized the importance of self-awareness, saying, ‘You need to know who you are.’ Sydney simply agreed, ‘You do.’

Sydney has been working to promote the new movie about boxer Christy Martin’s life.

David Michôd’s new movie will be released in theaters on November 7th next month.

Sweeney will play the character of Martin in the project, joining Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, and Katy O’Brian in the cast.

The actress famously gained 30 pounds to prepare for her role, something she discussed with Variety last month at the Toronto Film Festival.

The star shared that they worked with a nutritionist, a weight trainer, and a boxing coach to help them reach their goals.

I increased my calorie consumption, started drinking many protein shakes and taking supplements, and basically ate whatever I wanted.

I was always eating – lots of Smuckers, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and milkshakes – because we were so busy and active. I burned off all those calories just as quickly, so it was tough to keep my energy levels up.

Sweeney also shared that he was simply happy Christy’s story was being told.

Some critics have given the film very negative reviews before it even came out, including the BBC’s culture critic who only gave it a two-star rating.

It’s hard to fully immerse yourself in Christy because you’re constantly reminded that you’re watching Sydney Sweeney, and her public persona overshadows the movie itself.

Okay, look, I’m completely obsessed with Christy, and honestly, the whole thing hinges on Sweeney. She’s the reason everyone is talking about it, but it’s also…weird? It’s hard to see her as the character when all I can think about is, well, her. I just keep wondering if she’ll ever be able to separate herself from all the stuff people are saying about her in real life, and just be Christy. It’s a total paradox, and it’s driving me crazy!

The Telegraph awarded the film two stars, criticizing it as a boxing biopic that, despite its strong visual style, ultimately falls short.

While the lead actress in Euphoria delivers a fantastic performance, the story itself is unfortunately quite predictable and holds the show back.

The review also noted that Sweeney did a good job with the script she had and was believable in her role.

Currently, critics have given the movie ‘Christy’ a 69% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. An audience score is still being determined.
