Hollywood A-listers may be blacklisted for ‘antisemitism’ under Paramount’s new anti-woke leadership

If reports are true, prominent Hollywood figures who publicly support progressive causes may soon face difficulty getting jobs due to a potential ‘blacklist’ targeting those perceived as antisemitic.

Variety reports that Paramount, now led by David Ellison, a wealthy heir known for his support of Donald Trump, is starting to limit which actors it will work with based on their public views and political stances.

The publication reports they’ve created a list of performers they won’t hire, including those known for expressing openly antisemitic, xenophobic, or homophobic views.

In September, Paramount was the first major movie studio to publicly disagree with an open letter signed by prominent figures. The letter urged a boycott of Israeli film organizations accused of ‘genocide and apartheid’ towards Palestinians.

The letter was signed by a number of well-known actors and filmmakers, including Emma Stone, Javier Bardem, Mark Ruffalo, Tilda Swinton, Hannah Einbinder, Aimee Lou Wood, Peter Sarsgaard, Rooney Mara, and Academy Award-winning director Yorgos Lanthimos.

It’s unknown whether anyone who signed the letter was placed on a blacklist by Paramount. Paramount did not respond to a request for comment from the Daily Mail.

Last November, Susan Sarandon said she believed she was being excluded from work in Hollywood because of her views on Gaza and statements she made regarding Israel and Jewish people.

‘I was dropped by my agency, my projects were pulled,’ she told The Times.

‘I’ve been used as an example of what not to do if you want to continue to work.’

Following the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, actress Melissa Barrera was removed from the cast of Scream 7. This decision came after she publicly criticized Israel’s reaction to the attacks and expressed support for Palestinians in Gaza.

Spyglass released a statement to Variety saying they have a strict policy against antisemitism and all forms of hate speech. This includes false claims about genocide, ethnic cleansing, distorting the Holocaust, or any openly hateful statements.

In August, David Ellison—son of Larry Ellison, the founder of Skydance Media—became CEO of Paramount. This happened after Skydance Media and Paramount Global officially merged.

Following changes at Paramount after Bob Bakish’s departure, Bari Weiss has been appointed the new Editor-in-Chief of CBS News.

Bari Weiss openly supports Zionism and has become a prominent voice defending Israel, particularly through her publication, The Free Press, since the Hamas attacks on October 7th.

Other changes at Paramount include producing more films that can appeal to middle America.

Variety reports that Paramount Pictures has several projects in the works, including another Top Gun movie, a film adaptation of the popular Call of Duty video game series, and a high-speed motocross thriller featuring Timothée Chalamet.

In August, the CEO announced that Paramount intends to significantly increase its film production, aiming for as many as 20 movies per year, compared to the 11 to 14 they previously made.

He stated that all of these films will be released in cinemas, highlighting the value of seeing movies on the big screen rather than through streaming services.

He also doesn’t want to use Paramount+, the studio’s streaming service, to release cheaper, lower-quality movies, he explained.

Following a $16 million settlement with President Trump over a lawsuit concerning a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris, the company is working to distance itself from any previous political associations.

Ellison, speaking at a press conference, explained that their company prioritizes entertainment and believes everyone is a potential customer. He stated simply that ‘if you’re breathing, you’re our audience.’

‘I don’t want to politicize this company,’ he continued.

Our goal is to connect with everyone. A key focus for us is rebuilding Paramount’s reputation as the top choice for the world’s best artists and filmmakers.

‘Very simply, great filmmakers make great movies.’

Dana Goldberg, one of the new co-chairs at Paramount Pictures, announced that in addition to a third Top Gun movie, a new Star Trek film is also in the works and will be released soon.

This new company has quickly made a big splash by securing the rights to stream and broadcast UFC fights in the U.S. for $7.7 billion – an amount comparable to what they recently paid for Paramount.

For the next seven years, you’ll be able to watch the fights exclusively on Paramount+ and CBS. This announcement comes after reports that Ellison was seen with Trump at a UFC event in Miami back in April.

Last month, Trump publicly praised his close relationship with David and his father, Larry, who is currently the second wealthiest person in the world, behind Elon Musk.

Trump stated that he considers Larry Ellison and his son, David, to be friends and strong supporters, and he believes they will make the correct decisions.
