Things look a little different for professional basketball coverage this fall with the new TV schedule, especially for the long-running show Inside the NBA. Because of a new agreement between TNT and ESPN, the popular show has moved to ESPN. Many in the media, fans, and even the show’s hosts were worried about this change. Now that Inside the NBA has been on its new network for a few weeks, co-host Charles Barkley is sharing his funny, but honest, thoughts on how it’s going.
Charles Barkley openly discussed his concerns when it looked like Inside the NBA might end after TNT lost the rights to broadcast NBA games. Even after ESPN took over, Barkley continued to be honest about whether he and his colleagues would have a place at the new, Disney-owned company. He recently shared his thoughts on his new work environment while appearing on The Dan Patrick Show. In a clip posted to X, Barkley stated he wouldn’t try to please anyone, but he did express some optimism about the situation.
I’ve really enjoyed my time at ESPN. I’m saying this honestly – I don’t feel the need to flatter anyone, especially now that I’m financially secure. It’s truly been an honor to work there, because growing up, every athlete dreamed of being on ESPN. It felt like reaching the pinnacle of success just to appear on the network, and I’m grateful for the opportunity.

Charles Barkley was direct about why he rejected a job offer from NBC, even though they offered him a higher salary. He explained his reasons frankly, without holding back.
With the new season of Inside the NBA about to begin, many viewers were concerned about potential changes to the show. Traditionally, its success has relied on a full hour of airtime, giving Charles Barkley and his co-hosts – Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O’Neal – plenty of time to discuss basketball and other topics. Another worry was the short initial run of the season, as the show is scheduled to pause production after its November 12th broadcast until after Christmas.
As a big fan of Inside, I’m glad to hear the show’s shorter format is sticking around. There was some worry a while back, but ESPN’s Jimmy Pitaro reassured us the core team would stay together, and honestly, they’ve been fantastic so far. It seems like the network is also letting them be themselves – they’re not trying to tone down their lively debates, which is great. Charles Barkley even chimed in with his take on how things are going…
We’ve only [done] three shows, and they’ve been great. They left us alone.
As a longtime viewer of Inside, I’m really glad the show still has its unique energy even after moving to a new network. While I wish it still aired weekly, I’m just happy it’s still on. Honestly, it would be a shame if we didn’t get to hear Charles Barkley’s honest opinions on sports and everything else on TV.
Don’t miss the return of Inside the NBA on ESPN Wednesday, November 12! They’ll be covering two games: the Orlando Magic versus the New York Knicks and the Los Angeles Lakers against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
