As a huge fan of Rick Riordan’s work, I was so excited to hear he might be building a whole interconnected TV universe! It sounds like he’s really thinking long-term about bringing all his books to life. We’re getting Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+ December 10, 2025, and I know it’s going to be amazing because it’s based on The Sea of Monsters. Plus, they’re already working on Season 3! I was really intrigued by some things Riordan said recently – it definitely feels like there’s something bigger happening with these shows.
At Lucca Comics & Games 2025, author Rick Riordan hinted at a new, secret project that fans think is connected to his popular demigod stories. Many believe this project could be the start of a large-scale TV series, potentially as expansive as the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Rick Riordan recently shared news about his show, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which he helped create, wrote, and oversees as an executive producer. While doing so, he casually mentioned – in Italian – what could be the very first clue about a brand new show in his growing television universe.
Interviewer: “Speaking of this, what do you see in the future of Percy Jackson’s world?”
Rick Riordan says they’re currently making the third season of the TV show. He’s also developing a brand new series, though he can’t share many details about it yet. He hints that there are plenty more stories to come.
Just a small hint about a potential new show was enough to get fans excitedly speculating that The Kane Chronicles might finally be coming to Disney+.
The Kane Chronicles is a three-book series about siblings Carter and Sadie Kane, who learn they’re connected to the gods and pharaohs of Ancient Egypt. It’s set in the same universe as the popular Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus books. For a long time, fans have wanted to see these stories combined into a single, shared universe on screen, bringing together demigods and deities from various mythologies.
Netflix’s Canceled Kane Chronicles Adaptation Explained

Rick Riordan’s hint about a new series is particularly noteworthy considering the difficulties faced when trying to adapt The Kane Chronicles for the screen. Back in 2020, Variety announced that Netflix intended to turn the Egyptian mythology story into a live-action movie series, with Riordan involved in the writing and development.
Well, fans of Rick Riordan’s Kane Chronicles were understandably disappointed to learn, back in February 2024, that the Netflix adaptation isn’t happening. After The Red Pyramid sat in development for what felt like forever, Riordan himself announced on Goodreads that the project had been officially cancelled. It’s a real shame, as many were hoping to see those books come to life on screen.
The Kane Chronicles project is currently on hold at Netflix. They spent two years trying to create a script they were happy with, but have ultimately decided not to proceed, and their option has expired. Now, the project’s future depends on whether another studio is interested in taking over and continuing its development.
In June 2024, the author’s company, Mythomagic Inc., posted on Threads to respond to rumors that Disney+ was creating a television series based on The Kane Chronicles.
Development in our company, Mythomagic, simply means working on Rick’s books and other writing. Rick has been talking with Disney about adapting Kanes for years, but we don’t have any agreements in place yet. That means there’s no current partnership to create a Kanes movie for Disney+. We’re hoping that will change in the future.
Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians has been incredibly popular since it premiered in 2023, earning eight Emmy Awards and becoming the platform’s most-watched show in 2024 – even surpassing some Marvel and Star Wars series. Because of this success, fans are excited about recent comments from author Rick Riordan, which suggest that the characters and mythology from The Kane Chronicles might soon be added to the Disney+ universe alongside Percy Jackson and his friends.
What a Percy Jackson Shared Universe Could Mean for Disney+

If Rick Riordan is creating a Disney+ series based on The Kane Chronicles or another mythology, it could be a big deal. His books are all connected, featuring gods from Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Norse mythology within the same universe – a world fans call the “Riordanverse.”
A Disney+ streaming universe based on Rick Riordan’s books could connect the popular Percy Jackson series with The Kane Chronicles, and potentially include adaptations of his other books like Heroes of Olympus, Magnus Chase, and The Trials of Apollo. This could create a large, interconnected collection of mythological stories for Disney, similar to Harry Potter and modeled after the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While nothing is official yet, Rick Riordan has expressed interest in adapting the stories of Egyptian gods as human-like characters for television. Combined with the positive reception of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, it’s clear that more stories within the Riordanverse are likely on the way, and the possibility of seeing them come to life seems more realistic than ever.
