In the first episode of Ghosts, one of the ghosts risked his own safety to help his friends, hinting that he might be the first to move on. The episode introduced Samantha (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), who inherited Woodstone Mansion after Samantha’s great aunt passed away. The house had been in Samantha’s family for six generations, and she planned to turn it into a bed and breakfast.
Before the accident that gave Sam the ability to see ghosts, she used sage to cleanse her house, hoping to drive away any bad spirits. As she did this, the ghosts—Isaac, Flower, Sasappis, Hetty, Thor, Trevor, and Pete—watched with fear, worried about what would happen if the cleansing worked.

When Sam burned the sage, the ghosts moved back, but Pete curiously leaned in and smelled it. He thought it smelled wonderful, and soon the other ghosts enjoyed the scent too. In that instant, Pete bravely risked his own well-being for his friends, not knowing how the sage might affect him. It was the first time he’d put their safety before his own, willingly facing a potential danger to check it out.
In the season 5 premiere of Ghosts, Pete made a selfless gesture for Jay, offering to switch places with him when Elias (Matt Walsh) took control of his body. Just as Pete was about to finalize the exchange with a handshake, his former wife, Carol (Caroline Aaron), stepped forward instead. She hoped to make amends for her past infidelity with Pete’s best friend while they were both living.
Despite Pete’s selflessness and willingness to help others, it’s possible this very trait could ultimately lead to him being eliminated before the other ghosts.
Pete’s Selflessness Will Lead To Him Being The First Main Ghost To Move On

Pete is Woodstone Mansion’s friendliest ghost. He passed away in 1985 during a tragic accident – a fellow Pinecone Scout accidentally shot him with an arrow. Because he’s so kind, he often seems innocent and a little bit naive.
Pete’s been hurt – first by Carol’s infidelity, and then by discovering his job was a cover for her family’s criminal activities. He’s often been taken advantage of, and needs to learn to assert himself to heal and move forward. Despite everything, his kind heart is what truly sets him apart.
Pete is probably going to be the first of the main ghosts to disappear, simply because he’s the most genuinely good-hearted. Unlike some of the other ghosts, he isn’t driven by selfishness or manipulation. He’s actually been using his ability to leave the Woodstone Mansion to do good deeds, like recently reuniting the ghost of Amenhotep (played by Farhang Ghajar) with his wife in Egypt.
Pete has earned his peace and deserves to move on to the next stage of the afterlife, and he should be the first of the main ghosts to do so. While everyone will miss him, it will be a truly rewarding moment when he finally finds peace and ascends to the light.
