‘The Witcher’ Suffers Another Fatal Blow Following Season 4’s Release

Season 4 of The Witcher has arrived, and it’s proving to be just as controversial as many predicted. With Henry Cavill replaced by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia, and some significant changes made to the original story from Andrzej Sapkowski’s books, fans aren’t thrilled with the new direction. It’s currently the lowest-rated season of the show, scoring 61% from critics and a much lower 20% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. Although Netflix has already planned a fifth and final season, recent viewership numbers suggest this fantasy series may be ending sooner rather than later.

New data from Samba TV shows that viewership for The Witcher dropped significantly between seasons three and four. The first episode of season three was watched by around 885,000 homes when it first came out. But the premiere of season four, featuring Liam Hemsworth in the lead role, only attracted 577,000 viewers – a decrease of 35%.

Viewership for The Witcher continues to decline after a disappointing fourth season. This season has received the lowest reviews of the series so far. While the first season is still considered the best by fans, it received a 68% rating from critics and a much higher 88% audience score. Critics actually favored Season 2, giving it a 95% rating, but the audience score fell sharply to 54%. Season 3, featuring Henry Cavill’s last appearance as Geralt, earned a 79% critics’ score, though the audience score plummeted to just 20%. Season 4 has only been available for a short time, so its ratings on Rotten Tomatoes are still changing. However, unless there’s a significant shift in fan opinion, the show faces major challenges as it heads toward its fifth and final season.

The End is Nigh for ‘The Witcher’

The fifth and final season of The Witcher offers something for everyone. Fans who enjoy the show will get to see the story of Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer come to a conclusion, while those who haven’t liked the adaptation only have one more season to get through. Like many popular franchises, The Witcher has faced negativity and strong reactions from fans. While some complaints are reasonable, the biggest issue for many is the number of changes made from the original books and games, which some feel have drastically altered the story and characters.

Whether you enjoy The Witcher or not, the show is nearing its conclusion. Filming has finished for both Season 4 and the fifth and final season, which were filmed at the same time. While we don’t know exactly when Season 5 will be released, many people expect it to arrive sometime in 2026.
