Doctor Doom is now officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Following a brief appearance at the end of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Robert Downey Jr.’s version of the iconic villain is set to cause trouble across the multiverse in an upcoming movie. As the biggest threat to appear since Thanos, Doctor Doom’s arrival promises to dramatically change the MCU.
When Doctor Doom arrives in 2026, the Avengers will face him with everything they’ve got, alongside some new allies like the New Avengers, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four. Just like Iron Man’s final battle with Thanos, only one hero will ultimately be the one to defeat Doom. Several heroes are capable of taking him on, but a few stand out as the most likely to succeed against the villain.
The X-Men’s Combined Power Could Defeat Doctor Doom
The upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie will feature a return of several popular X-Men characters, including Professor X, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Beast, Mystique, and Magneto. Channing Tatum will also reprise his role as Gambit, joining forces with the other mutants to save their universe. Though not yet confirmed, it appears Deadpool and Wolverine will also be part of the team, creating a powerful lineup to face off against Doctor Doom.
With the X-Men franchise being rebooted as part of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doomsday feels like a farewell to the team as we’ve known them. While the series had its share of successes and challenges, this iteration of the X-Men was pivotal in launching the modern superhero movie era and should be central to the grand finale of the Multiverse Saga. It would be a fitting and moving end to their story if they ultimately saved the multiverse by vanquishing Doctor Doom.
Doctor Strange is One of the MCU’s Most Powerful Heroes
Doctor Strange is a powerful hero and one of the few Avengers who might be able to defeat the dangerous Doctor Doom. In the comic books, Doctor Doom is also a master of magic, making him a fitting opponent for the Sorcerer Supreme. Because Doctor Strange is one of the few Avengers skilled in sorcery, he’s likely to be the one who faces Doctor Doom when he appears.
While it’s not been officially confirmed, Doctor Strange is expected to play a crucial part in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday battle against Doctor Doom. Kevin Feige, head of Marvel, has described Benedict Cumberbatch’s character as central to the entire Multiverse Saga, hinting at a larger, yet-to-be-revealed role that could ultimately lead to Doctor Doom’s defeat.
Black Panther Deserves to Be a Leading Hero in the MCU
The Black Panther storyline has faced challenges within Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. Following the heartbreaking loss of Chadwick Boseman in 2020, Marvel had to change its original plans. Letitia Wright, as Shuri, stepped up to become the new protector of Wakanda. Shuri will be back in Avengers: Doomsday, where she’ll have the opportunity to demonstrate her strength against Doctor Doom.
The upcoming finale to Marvel’s Multiverse Saga draws heavily from the Secret Wars comics, where Black Panther plays a crucial part. With the late Chadwick Boseman’s passing, Shuri is now positioned to take on that role. However, there’s also talk that Marvel might reimagine the character of Black Panther entirely, potentially with actor Damson Idris. The Doomsday event could introduce a Black Panther from another universe who is powerful enough to face Marvel’s most dangerous new threat.
Captain America Needs to Prove Himself as the Avengers’ Leader
Throughout the recent Multiverse Saga, Sam Wilson officially became Captain America, a journey depicted in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Captain America: Brave New World. Now, he needs to demonstrate his ability to lead the Avengers. The perfect opportunity to prove himself would be to spearhead the team’s final victory against Doom at the conclusion of Phase 6.
Even though Sam Wilson’s Captain America might not have the raw power to beat Doctor Doom on his own, he’s the best leader to organize the effort against him. By skillfully directing the Avengers, Captain America could be crucial in defeating their greatest new threat.
Loki Is the Only MCU Character Stronger Than Doctor Doom
Loki, as played by Tom Hiddleston, is much more powerful now than when he last fought the Avengers. Throughout his Disney+ series, he discovered what his ‘glorious purpose’ truly meant and the responsibility that came with it. In the show’s final episode, Loki essentially takes over for He Who Remains, becoming the guardian of the multiverse and changing his identity from the ‘god of mischief’ to the ‘god of stories’.
Loki has become incredibly powerful in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, now able to control the multiverse and all its realities. Fans expect him to eventually face off against Doctor Doom, likely in either a Doomsday or Secret Wars storyline. He’s one of the few heroes strong enough to win against Doom, but it might come with significant consequences.
Spider-Man Is Street-Level But Incredibly Strong
Although his exact part is still unknown, the grounded, street-level hero has a good chance of being key in the upcoming battle against Doctor Doom. Given his close relationship with the late Tony Stark, Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, will likely be especially motivated to fight against a villain who resembles his former mentor in Doomsday.
Spider-Man has strong ties to the multiverse, and his unique connection to the Web of Life and Destiny gives him an advantage when facing threats that span multiple universes, like Doctor Doom. He could potentially team up with versions of himself from other realities – some of whom appeared in the movie No Way Home – to defeat the main villain of the current Multiverse Saga.
Thor Could Redeem Himself After Infinity War
Okay, so as a huge Marvel fan, I’m thrilled to hear Chris Hemsworth is definitely coming back as Thor for the big Multiverse Saga finale! It’s awesome that he’s one of the original Avengers still around for it. Everyone’s talking about how important he’ll be in the fight against Doctor Doom, and honestly, I think they’re setting things up perfectly. With the rumors pointing towards Secret Wars, this could be the perfect chance to give Thor the epic, heroic ending he deserves – imagine him being the one to take down Doom! It would be incredible.
As a huge MCU fan, I’ve always thought Thor could really shine against Doctor Doom. It’s not just about power – Thor has plenty of that, being a Norse god and one of the original Avengers! But beating Doom would be huge for his personal journey. He’s clearly still carrying the weight of failing to stop Thanos in Infinity War, and finally succeeding where he stumbled before would be incredibly satisfying. Honestly, I can’t think of a better way to wrap up Thor’s story than by letting him finally overcome that past failure and truly redeem himself.
Iron Man Could Return to Defeat His Doppelganger
Robert Downey Jr. is confirmed to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but this time as the villain Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars films. Given the multiverse is collapsing in the next phase of Marvel movies, characters from alternate realities could appear. Interestingly, a version of his previous character, Tony Stark/Iron Man, might be the one to ultimately defeat Doctor Doom in Secret Wars.
With Robert Downey Jr. returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even for a short appearance as Doctor Doom, it seems likely Tony Stark will return as well. Having Iron Man defeat Doom would further cement his legacy as one of Marvel’s greatest heroes, and give him the unique honor of being the one to defeat both Thanos and Doctor Doom.
Mister Fantastic Is Doctor Doom’s Biggest Rival
As a huge comic book fan, I’ve always been fascinated by the rivalry between Mister Fantastic and Doctor Doom – it’s legendary! The fact that they used to be college roommates just makes it even better. Honestly, if the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday doesn’t really explore that history and their complicated relationship, it would be a real missed opportunity. I mean, Mister Fantastic feels like the natural choice to be the one who ultimately takes Doom down, considering how long they’ve been at odds.
During the upcoming Doomsday event, Doctor Doom is predicted to gain immense, god-like power, potentially making it difficult for someone like Mister Fantastic to deliver the finishing strike. Interestingly, it’s rarely Reed’s stretching ability that allows him to win against Doom in the comics. Instead, his brilliant intellect is usually the key to victory. This could mean Reed Richards will be the one to devise the strategy to defeat Doctor Doom in the next Avengers movie, finally demonstrating his superior intelligence.
Franklin Richards Is One of the Most Powerful Beings in the Universe
Franklin Richards, the son of Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman, is set to be a major character in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film. He previously demonstrated incredible power by bringing his mother back to life after a battle with Galactus. Comic book readers know Franklin is one of Marvel’s strongest heroes, capable of altering reality itself on a massive scale.
Franklin Richards was central to restarting the universe in the 2015 Secret Wars comic, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) appears to be following a similar path. The MCU’s upcoming Secret Wars event will likely feature Franklin as a crucial character, a hint confirmed by the post-credits scene in First Steps, where Doctor Doom seeks out the young and powerful Franklin. Doom may believe Franklin’s abilities are the key to his plans, but those same powers could ultimately lead to his downfall.
