Rocket Raccoon’s MCU Death Makes Me Glad That The Guardians Of The Galaxy’s Future Is Confirmed

Rocket Raccoon, like many characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, faces challenges in the latest movie. However, things look promising for him and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy team. The Guardians of the Galaxy movies are consistently ranked among the very best in the entire MCU, with at least two out of three being considered top-tier films.

It’s quite an accomplishment that James Gunn got audiences to connect with a relatively unknown team of Marvel characters. Although there aren’t currently any announced plans for a new Guardians of the Galaxy project within the MCU’s upcoming releases, the team is likely to return eventually, and their comeback could address a recent unfortunate event within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Rocket Raccoon Tragically Dies In The MCU’s Last 2025 Release

I’m so excited for all the Marvel content coming out! After the last movie of 2025 hits theaters, we’ll finally get the final TV show of the year in September. It’s called Marvel Zombies, and it’s a really cool take on the MCU – it’s a multiverse story with a zombie apocalypse twist! It’s awesome seeing some familiar actors return to voice their characters, even if Rocket Raccoon’s part wasn’t super long this time around.

Similar to what happened in Avengers: Infinity War, Rocket and Groot join Thor in Wakanda to battle Thanos. However, the zombie version of Thanos from the MCU show quickly defeats the Guardians of the Galaxy, destroying them with the Infinity Gauntlet and severely injuring Thor. Knowing Rocket’s sad history makes his violent death even more heartbreaking.

Rocket Raccoon Has A Better Storyline Set Up For Him In The Main MCU

Although Rocket tragically dies in one version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he has a promising future in the main storyline. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Rocket overcomes his difficult past by triumphing over the High Evolutionary. The film concludes with the team going their separate ways, and Rocket stepping up as the new leader of the Guardians.

Groot, now much bigger and more powerful, and other characters like Kraglin, Adam Warlock, Phyla, and Cosmo the Spacedog will join Rocket. With Star-Lord, played by Chris Pratt, currently on Earth, Bradley Cooper’s Rocket Raccoon is poised to become a key player in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s space-based stories, and this is a significant opportunity after his quick appearance in Marvel Zombies.

Where Could Rocket’s New Guardians Of The Galaxy Appear Next?

As a movie critic, I’m keeping a close eye on the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. With James Gunn now leading DC, things are a little uncertain. We haven’t gotten official word on a fourth Guardians film, and none of the team are currently slated for Avengers: Doomsday. But knowing Marvel, and considering how interconnected these next two Avengers movies are going to be, I’m betting we’ll see at least some of the Guardians pop up in one of them. It just feels inevitable.

With Avengers: Secret Wars likely restarting the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2027, it’s reasonable to think most of Marvel’s key teams will be included. If the planned Nova series gets back on track, we might also see the Guardians of the Galaxy show up. Either way, Rocket Raccoon has a much more promising future in the MCU than his brief, zombie-fied appearance suggested.
