The must-have retro fashion item EVERY It-girl was wearing at the Melbourne Cup – and Rebecca Judd led the charge

Rebecca Judd was a standout at this year’s Melbourne Cup, setting the trend with a popular fashion choice.

This year’s most fashionable hat was the pillbox – a classic, rounded cap that was popular in previous generations.

Chic hats, once made famous by Jacqueline Kennedy in the 1960s, are popular again in 2025.

Bec chose a maroon dress with a simple, flat bow on the front, coordinating with her retro flight attendant-inspired outfit.

The influencer looked stunning in her outfit, completed by a coordinating hat from Ezaraj.

The AFL WAG’s stunning burgundy Eliya frock teamed with matching Lana Wilkinson heels.

Former Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, often referred to as the ‘Minister For Fashion,’ also made a stylish appearance at the races, sporting a chic pillbox hat.

Julie’s version came in beige straw and included a large silk bow at the back.

Melissa Leong, a former judge on MasterChef Australia and well-known for her style, also participated in the latest trend.

She chose a black pillbox hat with a mesh veil that partially covered her face.

Her black hat stood out against her bright green dress, and she coordinated the look with a large black envelope bag and matching heels.

Samantha Armytage chose a red ensemble, including a classic pillbox hat constructed of straw.

It perfectly complemented her sleeveless, red halter dress, which was trimmed with feathers.

Melbourne DJ Perri Lee likewise chose an all-red look with a pillbox hat in the same shade.

She wore a hat with a sheer veil and a large, eye-catching bow in the back, coordinating with her full, flowing dress.

As a style expert, I’m always watching the trends, and I spotted a really cute accessory on Hannah Dal Sasso recently. She paired her outfit with a bronze straw hat – it’s a big look right now! – and I loved that it had fabric trim that perfectly matched her dress. It’s those little details that really elevate an outfit, you know?

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe what Bec Judd told me – well, actually, she told the Daily Mail, but it feels like she told me! She let slip her secret to keeping her makeup flawless all day long at the races, and I’m absolutely dying to share it. It’s honestly genius, and I need to try it immediately! I’m obsessed with everything she does, and this is just… perfection.

Bec exclaimed that they accidentally used hairspray on her face, but the touch-up station at the Crown Marquee was a lifesaver!

She shared a couple of simple secrets for enjoying race day to the fullest: pace yourself with the champagne, and keep your shoes on!
