Robert Pattinson, known for playing Batman, has spoken for the first time about joining Denis Villeneuve’s popular Dune series. While promoting his new comedy film, Die My Love, Pattinson confirmed he’s part of the upcoming sequel and shared that filming in the desert heat has been intense.
Robert Pattinson is set to star alongside Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Florence Pugh in the new Dune film. Although his character hasn’t been officially announced, many believe he’ll play the villain, Scytale. Pattinson hasn’t confirmed this, but he told IndieWire that the intense heat during filming actually helped him relax and focus.
Filming “Dune” in the desert was…intense. The heat was so overwhelming, it completely fried my brain – seriously, I felt like I had zero functioning brain cells! It actually became kind of relaxing, though. I just completely checked out and let Denis [Villeneuve] take the lead. Whatever he asked, I was happy to do, no questions asked.
‘Dune: Part Three’ Promises Some Big Changes

Warner Bros.
Originally, many fans thought the next Dune movie would be called Dune: Messiah, mirroring the title of the second book in the series. But it’s now official: the sequel will simply be called Dune: Part Three, continuing the naming pattern established by Dune: Part Two.
Although the next movie will still be called Dune: Part Three, expect some big differences from the previous films. Timothée Chalamet, who was nominated for an Oscar, will be back as Paul Atreides, but he’ll have a noticeably new appearance. Recent photos show the actor with a very short buzz cut, which he’s been trying to hide under a hat. Fans familiar with the Dune story will likely understand why Chalamet changed his look, given what happens to Paul in the next part of the series.
The next Dune movie will likely be more focused on science fiction than the first two films, especially if it stays true to the book. This might involve Robert Pattinson’s character being a ‘Face Dancer’ – someone who can change their appearance. Jason Momoa will also return as Duncan Idaho, even though his character died in the first movie. He’ll be brought back as a ‘ghola,’ which is essentially a clone.
Despite all the developments for Dune: Part Three, the film will retain its impressive cast. Timothée Chalamet, Robert Pattinson, and Jason Momoa will return, alongside Zendaya as Chani, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides. New to the cast will be Nakoa-Wolf Momoa as Leto II Atreides, the son of Paul and Chani, and Ida Brooke as his twin sister, Ghanima Atreides. Dune: Part Three is set to release on December 18, 2026.
