Australian fans of the band Oasis surprised many by walking out of their sold-out concert in Melbourne over the weekend, seemingly breaking an unwritten rule about respecting artists during a performance.
After the sold-out Oasis concert at Marvel Stadium, many fans were playfully singing along to “Song 2,” a popular 1997 hit by the Britpop band Blur.
The song selection was unpopular because Oasis and Blur were major rivals during the 1990s, competing to be the leading Britpop group.
I remember hearing about this – it’s become a bit of legendary Britpop history! Apparently, back in 1995, Liam Gallagher from Oasis ran into Damon Albarn from Blur at a party. Liam, being Liam, supposedly couldn’t resist bragging about Oasis having the number one song in the UK at the time. It almost caused a huge scene, honestly!
People were surprised to see Oasis fans singing along to songs by their band’s biggest competitors, and many expressed their confusion on social media.
Someone commented with a laugh, saying that the conflict should serve as a lesson for Noel and Liam about starting fights with other bands, and that it’s better to argue amongst themselves.

‘Liam, we would never do this to you in Argentina,’ a second added.
However, others said they loved the cheeky move and admitted they would have joined in.
‘I’d do this just to p**s off Oasis fans,’ one user quipped.
Fans in Australia were upset after Liam and Noel Gallagher of Oasis playfully made fun of the Australian accent during their concert in Melbourne on Friday night.
During a performance of their famous song “Don’t Look Back in Anger” with a crowd of 55,000 at Marvel Stadium, the band made a witty remark.
During the song’s chorus, 58-year-old guitarist Noel playfully teased the enthusiastic crowd about their strong Australian accents.
Noel, clearly puzzled, exclaimed, “What does ‘anga’ even mean?” Liam watched, clearly amused by his brother’s confusion.
Angry fans immediately flooded social media to criticize the band from Manchester for mocking the well-known Australian accent.

‘As if he says it any better LMAO,’ one person quipped.
However, another suggested the brothers were simply displaying their trademark cheeky humour.
Someone who was present last night said they’d be surprised if anyone was upset by the comment, explaining that friendly banter about pronunciation between the British and Australians has been happening for centuries.
Oasis is returning to Melbourne for a concert on Tuesday before continuing their tour to New South Wales. They’re expected to play popular songs like ‘Wonderwall’.
The band will perform at Accor Stadium in Sydney next Friday and Saturday, November 7th and 8th. This marks their first tour of Australia in nearly two decades, since 2005.
The band is incredibly popular in Australia. Two of their albums have topped the ARIA charts, and their song “Wonderwall” was the number one hit in 1996.
The band announced their reunion last year, ending a decade-long split caused by a feud between Noel and Liam, who had finally resolved their differences.
