Rumors are swirling that the most awaited video game of 2026 could face another delay. Reports from industry insiders are mixed, with different sources leading to varying opinions on whether the game will be released on schedule.
The popular video game series is scheduled to launch its sixth installment on May 26, 2026. While Rockstar Games hasn’t announced any delays – despite a previous delay earlier this year – industry concerns suggest another postponement is possible.
What is the source of this Grand Theft Auto VI delay rumor?
According to popular game developer interviewer Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly, the release of GTA 6 might face further delays. He’s received mixed signals from developers at various studios – including those in Bangalore, Edinburgh, and San Diego – and hasn’t been able to confirm a firm release date. While they seem to be striving for the current target, another delay is still possible.
When asked for more details, Reilly said he didn’t have enough information to say for sure. He believes the company is currently discussing whether they’ll be able to meet their deadline.
Someone pointed out that game companies usually avoid announcing a specific release date unless they’re confident they can meet it, and Reilly agreed. He added that setting a firm date creates extra pressure, particularly from stores. The game’s content is finished, but there’s still a lot of quality assurance work to do – finding and fixing bugs and glitches. There’s a huge amount to test, and you only get one chance to make a good first impression, so they want to avoid a launch like the one Cyberpunk 2077 had.
When will we know if this rumor is true or not?
Fans began to speculate about delays in the release of Grand Theft Auto VI when Rockstar Games hadn’t posted any recent updates. Typically around this time, a third trailer would have been released. Adding to the concern, Nicholas Becher pointed out that the game’s release date had been removed from the official Rockstar Games website.
Becher and others have pointed out that the website still shows a release date of May 26, 2026, if you click on the relevant link.
Take-Two Interactive, the company that owns Rockstar Games, is holding an earnings call on November 6th. If the recent rumors are true, we’ll probably hear about it then. Also, releasing another trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI would likely reassure fans that the game is still on track and won’t be delayed.
