The show began its 28th season in October, not long after the premiere of Season 27 in July 2025. The series, famous for its edgy and often controversial humor, kicked off its current season with an episode called “The Woman in the Hat,” which playfully parodied itself.
As a long-time fan, I was watching the latest South Park Halloween episode and, honestly, it didn’t pull any punches. Trey Parker and Matt Stone are still going after the current administration hard, even making a joke about President Trump supposedly tearing down part of the White House. It felt a little meta, actually, because even within the show, Stan Marsh complains that South Park has become too focused on politics – specifically, constantly targeting Trump and people like Kristi Noem. To add to the drama, Stan’s dad, Randy, gets laid off from his job at the USGS because of the government shutdown. It’s classic South Park – taking current events and running with them, but it definitely felt like they were acknowledging the criticism about the show’s recent direction.
The show also satirized several public figures, including Attorney General Pam Bondi, First Lady Melania Trump, FCC Chair Brendan Carr, and White House advisor Stephen Miller. A storyline involved the characters creating a cryptocurrency called “South Park Sucks” and seeking protection from Donald Trump through Kyle’s cousin. Another plot point featured Trump holding a séance, led by Pam Bondi, to deal with a haunting at the White House, which was ultimately revealed to be his wife, Melania.
After the latest episode of South Park aired, viewers flooded the show’s Instagram page with reactions to “The Woman in the Hat.” One user, fishdaddythehiphophalibut, jokingly commented that the show had become a documentary, and the comment received over 5,000 likes. Another user, mau_sea, agreed, saying South Park wasn’t even satire anymore, but straight-up documentary filmmaking. Mark_pagman added that the episode was a very accurate depiction of the current administration.
Some Fans are Tired of the Political Nature of South Park
Several viewers expressed disappointment with the recent direction of South Park. One Instagram user, dom_amodei, commented that the current season felt overly focused on Donald Trump and missed the show’s earlier style. Another user, emunuck, found some moments funny but criticized the season as being too obvious and lacking originality, stating they weren’t against making fun of Trump but couldn’t connect with the ongoing storyline. Landonsatt sarcastically commented on the show’s perceived lack of originality in satirizing Trump.
I was a little annoyed the new South Park episode didn’t air when originally planned – it showed up on October 31st instead of the 29th. But it sounds like things are getting back to normal for Season 28! We’re going back to episodes dropping every other week, which is great. Mark your calendars: new episodes are coming November 12th, 26th, and December 10th. Honestly, as a longtime fan, I’m getting used to these little delays – it seems to be how South Park does things these days!
Parker and Stone explained in September that rushing things to the last minute can lead to not finishing them. They took responsibility for a delay, saying they simply ran out of time. They also expressed gratitude to Comedy Central and fans of South Park for their patience and understanding.
South Park airs new episodes on Comedy Central and streams the next day on Paramount+.
