Breakycpk on the HoN Reborn tournament: “We knew there would be interest… but it exceeded our expectations”

A global tournament with $100,000 has been announced for every nostalgic HoN fan out there!

Great news for Heroes of Newerth: Reborn fans! The game’s team just announced a $100,000 tournament that anyone can join. Plus, the game is almost ready to launch into Open Beta!

Kongor Studios, the team behind the game’s revival, quickly raised nearly $450,000 through crowdfunding. This shows there’s still a strong and active community passionate about this classic MOBA.

We spoke with Nick Caras, known as “Breakycpk,” who used to cast Heroes of Newerth. He now works with Kongor Studios on their Reborn project, leading up to a big tournament. As the Director of Communications for the new game, he gave us an exclusive interview.

About the current state of the game

Xpsp asked for an update on the game’s progress, including roughly how many people are currently playing and what the community’s reaction has been like.

Things are going really well with Breakycpk! Even though we’re still in closed beta and haven’t publicly announced it yet, we’re seeing thousands of players use it every day. We’re thrilled with the early response and optimistic about the future.

Wow, the project raised almost $450,000! Congratulations! Did you anticipate getting so much support from everyone?

We’re incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support during our Genesis campaign! We always believed in the project, but the response has surpassed even our highest hopes. Everyone at Kongor Studios is thrilled to be working on something so many people believe in.

About the $100,000 tournament

Which regions will be eligible to sign up for the HoN Reborn tournament?

We’re still finalizing the details for our $100,000 tournament, but it will be an online event open to players worldwide. Like with previous Heroes of Newerth tournaments, we want to give everyone a chance to compete in HoN: Reborn.

Are there any tentative dates you can share? They don’t have to be exact, just for reference.

We haven’t set specific dates yet, but we’re planning to hold a tournament while the Open Beta is running!

I understand you’ll be broadcasting the tournament. Can you tell us which channel fans should tune into to watch it?

I’m definitely planning to handle the event casting, and I’m really excited about it! However, we still have a lot of preparation to do before we get there. While I don’t have any details to share right now, we’re likely to use Honcast as our central platform for the competitive scene in HoN: Reborn.

Okay, so someone asked about how we’re handling payments for the HoN Reborn Tournament, and that’s a really good question! Basically, people want to know their money is safe with us, and they deserve that assurance. We need to make it super clear that we’re taking security seriously and that we’ve got a solid, trustworthy system in place to handle everything. I’m thinking we need to explain exactly how we’re protecting their payment info and that we’ll process everything smoothly – no one wants to worry about that during a tournament!

The tournament will be run through Juvio, a platform we’ve successfully used before – we previously hosted a $1000 event with it. This allows prize money to be paid to winners immediately after the tournament concludes.
