Fans are eagerly awaiting the fifth and final season of Stranger Things on Netflix, but all eight episodes won’t be available at once. The official trailer is out, showing Eleven’s powerful moments and a frightening scene with Will and Vecna. However, I’m particularly interested in a character who’s been present since the beginning. While she hasn’t had a major role in the first four seasons, she’s expected to be more prominent this time, and that could have significant consequences for young Holly Wheeler.
Holly Wheeler Was Recast
Holly first appeared in the very first episode of Stranger Things, and the third episode was even titled “Holly, Jolly.” She’s been in every season since, mostly as a member of the Wheeler family. For the first four seasons, twins Anniston and Tinsley Price played her, but Nell Fisher has taken over the role for Season 5. This change in actors suggests Holly will be significantly older in the final season, and that her part in the story will be larger than before.
It doesn’t make much sense to replace an actress playing Holly if the character will still be a minor presence. Plus, the new actress appears older than Holly should be by the fifth season, considering only four years have passed within the show’s storyline, even though it’s been almost ten years since the first season aired. Before we saw glimpses of Holly in trailers, many fans expected the recast character to have a more significant role.
Holly Isn’t Jolly In Season 5 Footage
Netflix is building anticipation for Season 5 of Stranger Things, which will be released in three parts around the holidays. The promotional video shows a frightened Holly clinging to Karen, sporting a big ’80s hairstyle. It also features a chilling scene of Holly and Karen hiding underwater in the bathtub – still the scariest part of the trailer for many fans. We also see a shot of a shaken Holly looking up at something ominous inside the Wheeler house.
To make things even more concerning, the trailer briefly shows Holly running to her mom after seemingly escaping the bathtub, while her mom struggles to get up. It’s a quick moment lost among all the action with Eleven and the monsters, but you don’t see Ted anywhere, and it looks like Mike and Nancy aren’t home either. If Nancy were there, she’d definitely be prepared to protect her family.
Okay, I’m honestly more worried about Ted and Karen than I am about Holly. Stranger Things has a pretty good track record of keeping the youngest characters safe, so seeing Holly suddenly become so central feels like a really bad omen. It’s like the show is setting her up to be right in the middle of something terrible, and that’s got me on edge.

Wheeler Siblings Bonding = The Real End Of The World
The recent footage of Holly looking scared with her mom, while the Wheeler house appeared to be under attack, should have been a warning sign, but a new photo confirms my suspicions. Throughout the four seasons of Stranger Things, the show hasn’t explored the relationship between Mike and Nancy as siblings, nor have we seen either of them spend much time with their younger sister.
Looking at the photo, it seems like Mike surprised Holly with her own Dungeons & Dragons figure – how sweet! And the background definitely looks like Hawkins Middle School to me. Judging by what Holly’s wearing, I’d guess this moment happened earlier that day, before everything went down at the house.
Seeing the Wheeler siblings get along is a classic storytelling trick – it probably means something bad is about to happen to them, especially Holly. If we see Mike and Nancy connecting before their house is likely targeted, it’s a sure sign the Duffer Brothers want us to worry about the Wheelers!
Could More Screentime Be A Good Thing For Holly?
I might be jumping to conclusions about Holly’s recast and the Wheeler siblings sharing scenes. When Erica was added to the group in a bigger role, she faced danger but ultimately became a valuable member of the team instead of just someone who needed rescuing. Maybe Holly will have a similar journey this season.
After seeing the official trailer – especially the scene of Holly helping Karen while Ted is missing – I don’t have high hopes for her role in the upcoming season. I don’t think she’ll be killed off, but I’m also not expecting her to join either of the main teams. Honestly, I’d be happy if she just makes it through relatively unharmed. The creators have warned us the finale will be emotional, and with it being shown in theaters and on Netflix, there’s likely to be a lot of public tears.
We’ll soon find out if Holly gets a bigger storyline and who from the Wheeler family makes it to the end of the final season, but the good news is the wait is almost over! The first part of Season 5 arrives on Wednesday, November 26th at 8 p.m. EST – great news for viewers on the East Coast.
The second part of the series will be available to stream starting Thursday, December 25th. The third and final part will arrive on Netflix and in some theaters on Wednesday, December 31st. If you’d like to catch up, all four previous seasons are currently available on Netflix.
