Lily Allen lands highest-charting album in over a decade with her ‘brutal’ breakup record West End Girl – and makes history as it becomes the UK’s most-downloaded of the week

Lily Allen’s new album has reached a milestone, becoming her most successful in over ten years and topping the charts as the most downloaded album this week.

As a lifestyle observer, I’ve been watching the incredible response to the singer’s new album. At 40, she bravely put out ‘West End Girl,’ a record deeply inspired by her recent divorce, and honestly, it’s a smash hit! People are really connecting with her honesty and vulnerability.

Lily’s newest album is her most successful in nearly a decade, performing better on the charts than her 2014 hit, Sheezus.

With the release of “West End Girl,” Lily Allen has achieved a remarkable streak: all five of her studio albums – including 2006’s “Alright, Still,” 2009’s “It’s Not Me, It’s You,” 2014’s “Sheezus,” and 2018’s “No Shame” – have landed in the Top 10.

So far released only online, West End Girl has been streamed more in its first week than any other digital-only release by a British artist in 2025.

The album is currently the most downloaded in the UK, reaching the top spot on the Official Albums Downloads Chart.

The album’s physical release is due in January 2026, just ahead of Lily’s newly-announced UK tour.

According to Martin Talbot, CEO of Official Charts, Lily Allen’s new album is quickly climbing the charts, landing in the Top 5. Despite being released digitally with little advance notice last week, the album – which is deeply personal and emotionally impactful – is proving very popular.

It’s fantastic to see two major British music legends return to the scene within the same week, proving that British music is still thriving in 2025.

The singer, who recently released an album detailing the end of her marriage to David Harbour and his infidelity, clarified that her songs aren’t intended to be hurtful. She doesn’t believe she’s being unkind by openly sharing what led to their split.

She’s stated that her ex-husband might be the most well-known person she’ll ever date, as she doesn’t plan on dating another celebrity in the future.

‘It does, because I’m not really looking to go out with another famous person,’ she said.

Lily, interviewed in Los Angeles, believes British men find dating her a bit unusual, likely because she’s famous in the UK.

She explained that dating in England can be awkward because people are often surprised to be on a date with her, something that doesn’t happen as much here.

Lily suggested she and David have reconciled, emphasizing that she isn’t seeking payback from him.

Lily recently told Interview magazine that writing her new album last December—completed in just ten days—has given her a new perspective on her divorce.

Lily recently realized something new about her past relationship after seeing photos of her ex with their daughters, Ethel, 13, and Marnie, 12, at Epic Universe in Orlando. People are now wondering if the two have been having friendly conversations and working towards a better relationship.

When asked if her new album was created to get back at someone, Lily explained that it wasn’t. She wrote the album very quickly, in just ten days in December, and has since moved on from the issues it addresses. She added that everyone experiences difficult breakups, and they’re always incredibly painful.

‘But I don’t think it’s that often that you feel inclined to write about it while you’re in it.’

Dave’s album, ‘The Boy Who Played The Harp,’ has become the fastest-selling rap album on vinyl in the 21st century.

He’s the first British rapper to have three albums reach the top spot on the Official Albums Chart.

His latest album, The Boy Who Played The Harp, immediately reached the top spot on the Official Albums Chart.

New data from Official Charts shows that The Boy Who Played The Harp sold 73,800 copies in the UK last week. This makes it the second-best debut week for a British album this year, following closely behind Sam Fender’s award-winning album, People Watching.

This film also had the fourth-highest opening weekend of 2025, following releases by Taylor Swift (The Life Of A Showgirl), and the collaboration between Sam Fender and Sabrina Carpenter, Man’s Best Friend.

With excitement building for Dave’s new album, listeners have been revisiting his older music, causing his first two albums to climb back into the Top 40 charts.
