Just two weeks after welcoming her fourth child, comedian Katherine Ryan has spoken about the strong negative reactions she’s gotten for sharing her parenting opinions.
Comedian Katherine Ryan and her husband, Bobby Kootstra, recently welcomed their daughter, Holland. Katherine shared that the birth was surprisingly quick – just 45 minutes – when she returned to recording her podcast.
She and Bobby are already parents to four-year-old Fred and two-year-old Fenna. She also has a sixteen-year-old daughter, Violet, from a previous relationship.
Katherine recently discussed on Davina McCall’s ‘Begin Again’ podcast – while still pregnant – how she’s been called ‘privileged’ for sharing parenting tips, particularly about potty training, with other new mothers.
She previously shared that her son, Fred, stopped using diapers at eight months old. Now, she’s explaining that she believes potty training can begin very early in a baby’s life, though she feels her message sometimes gets misunderstood.
People often react defensively, getting upset and assuming I’m blaming them for their personal circumstances. For example, a parent might think I’m suggesting they’re neglecting or don’t love their child simply because their child is still in diapers. I believe this is just a misunderstanding.

The mother of four explained that she thinks many caring parents unintentionally teach their babies to rely on diapers, without realizing it.
Okay, so basically, if you consistently take them out of diapers and sit them on the potty, you’re teaching them where to go! It’s like, you’re showing them the potty is the place, and they’ll get it. I’ve been reading everything I can about this, and that’s what everyone says – consistency is key! I’m so excited to start this with my little one!
Katherine acknowledged that this wouldn’t be feasible for every family, especially with many new mothers needing to return to work and place their babies in daycare.
People often assume I’m privileged, pointing out that I have chefs and nannies. I usually respond by saying I don’t… then quickly adding, ‘Actually, I do.’
I have help with childcare and cleaning – a nanny and a cleaner who comes twice a week – but we don’t have a chef. Oh, and that’s Bobby! So yes, I do have that support system. I actually potty trained my oldest daughter, Violet, while I was a single mom struggling financially.
In the same interview, she revealed she’s considering a facelift and using Ozempic, explaining she wants to look her absolute best for her fans.
She shared that she gave her mother a facelift as a birthday gift last year and is now looking forward to getting one herself.
The actress, who has never had cosmetic surgery on her face, explained that she’ll always be open and honest about any procedures she has. She believes being truthful ‘takes away the stigma’ and that hiding it wouldn’t feel genuine to her.

Katherine talked about the cosmetic procedures she was considering, emphasizing that her reasons were entirely personal. She stated plainly, ‘I’m doing this for myself, not to please anyone else.’
Oh my gosh, she said she’s seriously considering Ozempic next year, just to get to where she wants to be! And can you believe it? She’s even thinking about a face lift! She said everyone’s getting them younger now, and she doesn’t want to be left behind. I’m obsessed with everything she does, and honestly, if she thinks this will make her happy, I’m here for it!
I can’t change my nose, and many people assume I’ve had surgery. But I haven’t – I wouldn’t pick this nose for myself if I could.
I’m hesitant about getting a lip lift because I feel my nose is quite large and oddly shaped. However, I’m not interested in getting any cosmetic procedures specifically to conform to male beauty standards; I just enjoy exploring these things for fun!
The popular TV personality has publicly discussed getting breast implants in 2004, along with Botox and fillers. She often playfully jokes about the cosmetic procedures people think she’s undergone.
Katherine shared that she takes jokes about having plastic surgery in stride, saying she believes she has a healthy perspective on those kinds of comments.

I haven’t had any plastic surgery on my face. I also haven’t used Botox or fillers recently, mainly because I’ve been pregnant. My face has changed a lot during pregnancy – it’s gone through periods of being swollen and then becoming more defined, over and over.
I don’t constantly dislike my appearance, but as a performer, I believe my audience deserves to see a polished and glamorous version of me. That’s just part of the entertainment business, and I want to give them a great show.
Okay, so she basically said she’s going to do something – and I’m already losing it just thinking about it! – and then she’s going to announce it to the world. But get this – it’s not about bragging or feeling bad, she just wants to be real about it! Like, she’ll just be like, ‘Yep, that was me, I wanted to do it,’ and I LIVE for that honesty! It’s so…her. I can’t wait!
Getting a facelift, for me, is about feeling confident and owning your choices. I believe in being honest about things I do, so if I were to have one, I wouldn’t hide it – it just wouldn’t feel genuine.
It could also lead women who appreciated my honesty to compare themselves to me and wonder why they don’t have the same physical results after having children.
