Fans of Scream 7 think the recently released trailer might have revealed the identity of the killer. The preview for the new movie was published online yesterday.
The trailer offered fans their first glimpse of Neve Campbell reprising her role as Sidney Prescott, now facing a new Ghostface threat while protecting her daughter, Tatum (played by Isabel May).
Okay, so I was watching the trailer, and someone pointed something really cool out to me. Apparently, McKenna Grace’s character is wearing a blue and green tartan skirt in one shot, and it’s the same pattern that was used on outfits for killers like Billy Loomis and Richie Kirsch in past movies! It’s a tiny detail, but a super observant fan caught it, and it’s got everyone thinking it might be a hint about her character’s role.

“Mckenna Grace, that’s a very unique color pattern my friend,” the fan wrote on X.
Some fans think a recent detail might be a deliberate distraction. One person speculated it could be a “red herring,” while another hopes it’s simply meant to mislead viewers.
The next Scream film will surprisingly feature the return of David Arquette as Dewey, Matthew Lillard as Stu Macher, and Scott Foley as Roman Bridger – even though all their characters previously died – alongside Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers.
Earlier this year, Guy Busick, a writer on the upcoming Scream 7, explained to ComicBook.com that there’s a specific and interesting reason why the film needed to focus on Sidney Prescott, but he didn’t want to reveal any details.
With each Scream movie, it’s important to consider what current trends or issues the film is addressing. Scream consistently engages with the audience about the movie industry, especially horror franchises, and reflects on their current state.

He explained that there’s a very deliberate reason Sidney appears in the film, and they were pleased with how it all came together.
This sequel is happening despite the fact that Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, who played Sam and Tara Carpenter, have left the project, and the original director, Christopher Landon, is no longer involved.
Landon told Vanity Fair that the producers asked him to keep going after he decided to leave. They suggested he could start over and work things out. However, he felt the level of mistreatment he experienced wasn’t worth sacrificing his well-being, so he chose to walk away.
Scream 7 is released in cinemas on 27 February 2026.
