It’s also a great way to get into the spirit of Halloween without having to leave your sofa.

The 2012 film, based on Susan Hill’s novel, tells the story of Arthur Kipps, a young man grieving his wife. As a lawyer, he journeys from London to a secluded village to settle the estate of someone who has recently passed away and owned a large house.
However, things quickly become more complicated when he learns a vengeful ghost is haunting the place – a woman who was wronged and is now seeking payback.

Digital Spy at the time gave the film four stars, and praised Radcliffe’s acting skills.
Back in 2012, we praised this film for its spooky atmosphere and believable acting, saying it’s a truly captivating and effective throwback to classic horror.
Radcliffe said the script immediately caught his eye when he was searching for roles after finishing the Harry Potter series.
He explained to Den of Geek that the script really appealed to him because he’d never considered himself a horror actor, and it wasn’t a genre he usually enjoyed.

The actor also praised Jane Goldman’s writing, calling it “amazing.” He explained that he read the script very quickly – in about an hour – despite it being mostly stage directions with limited dialogue. He attributed this to the script being incredibly well-written and captivating.
I quickly connected with the director, James Watkins, because we both saw the film as more than just a scary movie. We wanted characters with genuine connections and a story with real emotional depth. It was a fantastic opportunity – a strong script, a compelling role, and a talented director – everything you could ask for!
The Woman in Black is airing on BBC One at 00.40am on early Saturday (November 1) morning.
