Looking for your next TV obsession? Netflix has released Amsterdam Empire, a Dutch crime drama featuring Famke Janssen as a woman determined to get revenge.
Netflix now has Amsterdam Empire, a gripping crime series originally revealed last year and set amongst the coffee shops of Amsterdam.
The seven-episode crime series, created by Nico Moolenaar, Bart Uytdenhouwen, and Piet Matthys, features Jacob Derwig as Jack van Doorn, the man who built the successful coffeeshop chain, The Jackal.

Jack built a fortune and gained notoriety by overcoming criminals, business rivals, and legal obstacles in the Netherlands. However, his success is jeopardized when his romantic relationship with a prominent journalist becomes public.
After discovering her husband’s affair, Betty (Janssen), a former popstar, plans to exploit his vulnerabilities and secrets to dismantle his business empire.

Janssen expressed great excitement about returning to the Netherlands to begin working on their first project in their home country, stating, “I am beyond excited to return home to the Netherlands for my very first Dutch role!”
I’m thrilled to be working with Nico Moolenaar and this incredible team. I’m also really happy to be collaborating with Netflix again on this amazing story, which is set in the wonderful city of Amsterdam – a place I truly love.
The character of Betty was specifically written for Famke Janssen, explained series creator and executive producer Moolenaar. He stated that it had always been a goal to bring Janssen, a Dutch national icon, back to the Netherlands to star in a local production for the first time in her career when the series was first announced.

I always envisioned Betty being played by Famke, and I’m so excited she agreed to join the project.
Moolenar previously collaborated with Netflix on the series Undercover and the movie Ferry, both of which featured Elise Schaap. Schaap also appears in Amsterdam Empire.
Moolenar expressed his excitement about building a new world after dedicating years to Ferry Bouwman’s creations.
I’m thrilled to be working with my usual collaborators, Piet Matthys and Bart Uytdenhouwen, and I’m excited to welcome the incredibly talented Jonas Govaerts to the team. We’ll keep you updated as we build an amazing group of actors and filmmakers.
The new film, Amsterdam Empire, features Jade Olieberg as Katja van Doorn, alongside Yannick van de Velde as Erik Ketels, and Jesse Mensah as Patrick van Doorn.
Amsterdam Empire is streaming on Netflix.
