Spoilers ahead for the most recent episode of Survivor 49.
As a huge reality TV fan, I have to say Survivor is just iconic – truly one of the best shows ever. We’re getting into the thick of Season 49 now, and things are really starting to explode. The latest episode was a rollercoaster – another tribe swap shook things up, and we finally saw the end of that intense rivalry between Sage and Shannon. The internet was buzzing about it afterwards, and even Jeff Probst shared his thoughts on those two completely different personalities.
Many viewers are curious about how much money contestants earn on Survivor, but others are more interested in the relationships and conflicts between players. Whether season 49 will be remembered as one of the show’s best is still uncertain, but the recent episode sparked a lot of discussion, particularly when Sage finally eliminated her rival, Shannon. Fans on Twitter have been sharing clips related to this storyline, including:
I’ve found the relationship between these two players to be one of the most captivating parts of Survivor 49 so far. Sage, especially, is really popular with viewers online, largely because of her dramatic reactions and successful move to eliminate Shannon. She reminds me a lot of Carolyn Wiger, another player known for her expressive face and memorable confessionals.
Although the current season of Survivor is generally more compassionate and emotionally open than earlier seasons, Sage’s strong anger towards Shannon reminded viewers of the intense rivalries from the show’s past. One fan noted that…
This scene really stood out to me as the best part of the episode, and it’s no surprise it’s getting so much attention from Survivor fans. After Shannon was unexpectedly voted out, she went to hug everyone on her tribe. However, Sage refused to participate, not wanting to pretend to be friendly after spending weeks strategizing against Shannon and badmouthing her to both the other players and the show’s producers. It was a dramatic moment, and it makes me wish Survivor would bring back the post-show reunions where the cast gets to watch the season and react together.

Paramount+ offers streaming access to the complete Survivor series, and costs as little as $7.99 per month or $59.99 per year. They have two plans: an Essential plan for $7.99/month and a premium, ad-free plan for $12.99/month. Check out the deal here.
While Season 49, available on Paramount+, showed Kele struggling, there’s been plenty of drama with the other two tribes as well. People online are already making memes about Saga and Shannon, like these:
The latest episode ended with a big confrontation, and it makes you wonder if other rivalries on Survivor 49 will escalate like this one. Savannah has been frustrated with Jawan for several episodes, and we’ll likely see if that tension boils over when the tribes merge.
What Jeff Probst Said About Shannon And Sage
Jeff Probst, the host and executive producer of Survivor, also commented on the clashing personalities that fueled the drama in the sixth episode. He shared notes from the casting process about contestant Shannon during an appearance on the On Fire podcast, and began to reflect on her character.
She has a captivating presence and a unique energy. She’s articulate, a bit quirky, and deeply interested in spirituality and new ideas – she comes from a family of business-minded people. She’s not afraid to share her thoughts, participate in discussions, and connect with others. We knew she was special from the casting call, but seeing her in person really brought all of those qualities to life.
I think this evaluation is spot-on. Shannon was a really unique person – she combined discussions of faith with new-age meditation and managed to build connections with many of the other cast members. She was a strong player, but that ultimately made her a target for Sage, who voted her out for both strategic and personal reasons.
Jeff Probst also discussed how excited he was about this storyline, and how it highlights the fascinating social dynamics that make Survivor so compelling. He then continued by saying:
One of the joys of casting is meeting incredible people, and Shannon immediately stood out during her audition, earning her a place on the show. She and Sage represent the diverse backgrounds that make Survivor so unique and special.
The diverse mix of players is a key reason Jeff Probst dismissed the idea of an all-winners season of Survivor. The show is built on bringing together people from all walks of life and forcing them to connect. We saw that dynamic play out with players like Sage and Shannon.
As a huge fan, I’m so excited for the new season of Survivor! It’s coming to CBS on Wednesdays as part of their 2025 lineup, and the best part is, episodes will be available to stream on Paramount+ the very next day. I’m really hoping this season delivers some amazing moments that the fans will be talking about – and turning into memes, of course!
