Welcome back, Sidney Prescott.
The first trailer for “Scream 7” dropped on Thursday, showing Neve Campbell reprising her role as Sidney Prescott, facing off against the Ghostface killer once more. This time, however, Sidney isn’t alone – she’s joined by her daughter, Tatum (played by Isabel May).
In the trailer, a distorted, recognizable voice greets Sidney, asking if she missed him. He comments on the pleasant town she’s living in with her daughter, noting it brings back memories of their childhood.
At first, Sidney doesn’t think the new, voice-changed Ghostface is a serious danger, but they quickly prove her wrong. The trailer shows the killer attacking both Sidney and Tatum in their homes. It seems Ghostface is specifically targeting Tatum to upset Sidney, but Tatum is determined to fight back, just like her mother.
× Neve Campbell is back for “Scream 7,” directed by Kevin Williamson, after sitting out “Scream VI” (2023) because of a disagreement over pay. Though she appeared in the 2022 “Scream” reboot, the focus of the franchise had shifted to sisters Tara and Sam Carpenter, played by Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera, and they continued to be the main characters in “Scream VI.”
Both actors were originally expected to return for this new movie, but they ultimately didn’t. Barrera was removed from the film after posting opinions on social media about the Israel-Hamas war, which some people interpreted as antisemitic – a label she denies. Ortega then left the project soon after.
Neve Campbell will return for “Scream 7,” alongside Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers and David Arquette as Dewey Riley, even though his character seemingly died in the previous film. Kevin Williamson, who created the original “Scream” and wrote the scripts for the first, second, and fourth movies, will direct this installment – a first for him in the franchise. He co-wrote the screenplay with Guy Busick.
The movie will star Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, Mckenna Grace, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Asa Germann, Celeste O’Connor, Sam Rechner, Ethan Embry, Tim Simons, and Mark Consuelos.
“Scream 7” is slated for a Feb. 27 release.
