The popular TV series Midsomer Murders is now a stage play! Daniel Casey, who originally played Sergeant Gavin Troy from 1997 to 2008, is returning to star as Inspector Tom Barnaby. The play, titled Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger’s Drift, is being performed at Theatre Royal Bath and has been so successful it’s been extended through June 2026.
James Bradwell will play the role of Sergeant Troy in the production. The cast also includes Nathalie Barclay, Chandrika Chevli, John Dougall, Julie Legrand, Rupert Sadler, Chris Agha, and Rhîan Crowley-McLean.
The show, directed by Guy Unsworth, begins with the death of Emily Simpson, a beloved but unmarried woman, in the charming village of Badger’s Drift. Her friend, Lucy Bellringer, doesn’t believe it was a simple accident and sets out to investigate.

Tonight marks the premiere of The Killings at Badger’s Drift at the Richmond Theatre. The play will be performed there through 2026.
Casey expressed surprise and excitement about being asked to be part of the show’s adaptation, stating it came as a “real surprise.”
He admitted he didn’t think he’d ever return to the quirky world of Midsomer, filled with its unusual inhabitants and their hidden, unsettling truths.


I was really surprised and delighted to be asked to play the famous role of Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby in this new stage version of The Killings at Badger’s Drift.
As we developed the play, it became clear the characters were naturally suited for performance, making it ideal for the stage.
Thinking back to my time playing Sgt Troy brings back a lot of happy memories, especially working with the wonderful John Nettles. Now taking on the role of Barnaby is both a bit nerve-wracking and really thrilling.
