Neve Campbell returns as Sidney Prescott, and this time, she’s confronting a threat even more frightening than anything she’s faced before in the previous six films.
Paramount Pictures released the first trailer for Scream 7 on Thursday, and it features the highly anticipated return of the actress to her iconic horror role. She hadn’t appeared in the previous film, Scream VI, due to disagreements during contract negotiations, making this a welcome comeback for fans.
The newest trailer quickly establishes that the main female character is still the one facing the greatest danger, as a disturbed masked killer repeatedly puts her life at risk.
Sidney Prescott, now living a peaceful life away from Woodsboro, is fiercely protective of her daughter as a new Ghostface emerges, threatening their safety.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m telling you, the excitement is HUGE! It’s not just about Sidney’s return – we’re seeing a comeback of characters that nobody predicted, making this the most surprising reunion in the whole series, hands down!
The new horror movie features returning stars Matthew Lillard, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox, much to the excitement of fans.

Courteney Cox returns as Gale Weathers, the determined journalist who fearlessly pursues the story, even amidst chaos and danger.
However, fans are particularly excited and curious about the return of familiar actors, considering their characters, Dewey Riley and Stu Macher, were previously killed off in earlier movies.
Dewey tragically fell in Scream V and Stu infamously met his end via a TV set in the 1996 original.
In March 2024, Neve Campbell announced she would return to the Scream movies after leaving due to a disagreement over pay.
She excitedly announced on Instagram that Sidney Prescott will return! She shared that playing Sidney in the Scream films has always been a wonderful and humbling experience.
I still love these films and what they mean to me. I’m incredibly happy and honored to have been asked to revisit Sidney’s story on screen, and I’m truly excited! Though, there’s actually something that would make me even happier.
I’ve been very fortunate to work with horror legend Wes Craven and the fantastic duo Matt and Tyler. For a long time, though, I’ve hoped to collaborate with Kevin Williamson as the director on one of these films.
Great news! Kevin Williamson, the creator of the Scream franchise, is set to direct the seventh film. He originally conceived the world of Scream and is known for his creative vision.

Kevin is a wonderful artist and a close friend of mine. I’m thrilled for all the Scream fans and can’t wait to work with him on set! @kevwilliamson
Neve Campbell starred as Sidney Prescott in five ‘Scream’ movies over more than twenty years, but she decided not to return for the sixth film, announcing her departure in 2022.
The actress famously played Sidney Prescott in five movies over more than twenty years, but she announced in 2022 that she wouldn’t be returning for the sixth film.
She explained that the tough choice came after unsuccessful talks about her pay, which she attributed to widespread inequality between men and women in the film industry.
Neve Campbell felt disappointed and unappreciated, especially considering her leading role in a horror movie series that has earned almost $1 billion.
However, the Canadian actress has stated she doesn’t want the films to fail and recently shared that she finally got around to watching Scream 6.
She explained to her fans that she genuinely wanted the movie to succeed. ‘I wasn’t hoping it would be bad or a failure,’ she said at Monster-Mania Con earlier this month.

She admitted she wasn’t sure why it took me so long to realize it, but she was impressed nonetheless.
Scream VI boasts a talented cast, including Jenna Ortega, known for her role in Wednesday, and Samara Weaving from The Babysitter.
It also saw the return of franchise vets Courteney Cox, Skeet Ulrich and Hayden Panettiere.
The movie was released in theaters on March 10, 2023, and earned $169 million worldwide, costing $24 million to make.
Campbell praised the performance, saying, ‘I was really impressed with how well everyone did.’ He also highlighted the talent of the actors, describing them as ‘powerful and wonderful’.
Campbell expressed strong support for everyone working on the film, even if she isn’t appearing in it. Her only concern is with the studio heads who rejected her salary proposal.
She acknowledged that some leaders are primarily focused on profit, which is their right. However, she emphasized that she personally cares deeply about the quality of the films, and wants to deliver something enjoyable for the fans who love them.

Last year, Campbell further explained her decision to leave the cult horror that made her famous.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Neve Campbell confirmed she left her role as Sidney Prescott because of a disagreement over pay.
I truly appreciate this series, but I couldn’t handle feeling like I wasn’t valued if I participated,” she said.
I keep hearing it’s simply about the money. She’s made it very clear that she feels she wasn’t compensated fairly for all the work she did, and that’s the core of the issue, as far as she’s concerned.
I didn’t believe the offer reflected my value to the franchise, considering my 25 years of contributions.
As a woman working in this industry, I believe it’s crucial that we prove our worth and advocate for the respect we deserve.
Campbell expressed feeling undervalued, believing she was offered less money because she is a woman. She stated that a male actor with a similar record – 25 years and five films in a major franchise – would likely receive a significantly higher offer.
‘And in my soul, I just couldn’t do that.’

Oh my god, Scream! When it came out in December of ’96, it was HUGE. I remember everyone talking about it! And can you believe it only cost $14 million to make? It totally crushed it at the box office, making over $173 million worldwide – I looked it up on Box Office Mojo just to confirm, because I needed to relive the magic again!
Directed by Wes Craven, the movie starred a talented group of actors including Courteney Cox, Neve Campbell, Drew Barrymore, Rose McGowan, and David Arquette. It proved so popular that it led to three follow-up films: Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000), and Scream 4 (2011).
Sidney and her boyfriend, Billy, went upstairs for some privacy, but their moment was quickly interrupted when Ghostface attacked and stabbed Billy.
Sidney rushed downstairs and, after finding a gun belonging to police officer Dewey, was shocked to hear her friends Stu and Randy immediately blame each other for the killings.
She discovers Billy wounded but still breathing. He grabs the gun and, uttering the line ‘We all go a little crazy sometimes,’ shoots Randy. This reveals that Billy’s injuries were fake – staged with corn syrup – and confirms that he and Stu are the murderers.
The group intends to murder Sidney and make it look like her father, Neil, is responsible for all the killings. They also confess to killing Sidney’s mother, Maureen, because she had a relationship with Billy’s father.
A violent fight breaks out, during which Stu stabs Billy, and Sidney ultimately shoots Billy in the head.

Melissa Barrera was let go from the upcoming Scream 7 in 2023 because she posted content supporting Palestine on her social media.
In late 2022, actress Barrera was fired by Spyglass Media Group due to posts they considered hate speech. Shortly after, her co-star Jenna Ortega and director Christopher Landon also left the film.
In a Rolling Stone interview, Melissa Barrera addressed accusations of distorting the Holocaust made by Spyglass. She also discussed her friendship with Jenna Ortega, who had to leave ‘Scream 7’ due to a busy schedule.
Okay, so when Spyglass just dropped Jenna Ortega from Scream VII, they came up with these awful accusations, saying she was distorting the Holocaust! I seriously dug into it, and there was nothing to support that claim – in fact, everything I found pointed the other way! It’s insane to throw something like that at someone without a shred of proof. They were totally trying to ruin her career, and it makes me so mad just thinking about it. Rolling Stone said it too, and they’re right – it was a deliberate attack!
Honestly, it just completely blew me away! I mean, I’ve heard it’s happened to others, but wow. I’m still trying to process everything. What I loved most was how open and honest everyone was – it felt so real. And it just reaffirmed who I am, you know? Everything I’ve ever said, every opinion I’ve ever shared, comes from such a genuine place of caring. It’s always been about love, about basic human rights, about wanting freedom for everyone. It shouldn’t even be controversial, honestly!
Honestly, I’m completely comfortable with who I am and where I stand – it’s not something I even question. My family knows me well, they understand my values, and I truly believe most people out there get it too. It’s a really peaceful feeling.
Barrera also spoke fondly of her friend Ortega, calling her a reliable and supportive person.
Following the firing of Melissa Barrera from Scream 7, Jenna Ortega also left the project, explaining she had scheduling conflicts with her work on the show Wednesday.
According to Rolling Stone, despite reports suggesting Jenna was already leaving, the situation felt more complex. It appeared there was a sense of support and unity among women at play.

Jenna is a wonderful person, and we have a close relationship,” Barrera shared about her former colleague. “We support each other through anything, and I know she’d be there for me just as I would for her.
She also spoke about losing her job after publicly calling for a ceasefire, explaining it was about wanting what’s best for everyone affected by the conflict. She simply wants the violence to stop, for the safety and well-being of all involved, and for a basic display of compassion.
Barrera said the controversy helped shed light on who her true friends were.
Oh my gosh, she’s SO right! It’s amazing how quickly you learn who’s genuine in this business. It’s like a natural filter, honestly. You need to know who you can really trust and who just isn’t worth your time – it’s everything when you’re deciding who to collaborate with, you know?
Jenna Ortega played Sam Carpenter in the most recent two movies of the horror series and was scheduled to appear in the next one, but Spyglass Media decided not to move forward with her involvement.
