A Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game is planned for 2026, and all versions will receive new content, with Nintendo Switch Online subscribers getting extra benefits.
Nintendo Switch’s New Horizons has become one of the system’s most popular games, partly because it was released at just the right moment. While the game received lots of updates and new content after it launched, those updates had stopped – until now.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Is Getting A Free Switch 2 Update
Nintendo has revealed a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, launching on January 15, 2026. Current owners of the game will be able to purchase an upgrade pack to get the new features and improved performance.
Both the original and New Horizons Switch games will get the free Version 3.0 update at the same time, bringing new content to all players.
What’s New In Animal Crossing: New Horizons On Nintendo Switch 2?
Okay, so I just got the Animal Crossing: New Horizons upgrade for my Switch 2 and wow! The graphics are seriously bumped up to 4K, which looks amazing. But the coolest part? I can actually use the mouse controls on my new Joy-Cons to place furniture and craft stuff – it’s way more precise! Plus, now I can have way bigger parties on my island with up to 12 players, and we can all chat using GameChat. They even added a Megaphone item so you can shout things out in-game, which is kinda fun!
The new free update, version 3.0, introduces a hotel run by Kapp’n that players can decorate. Guests at the hotel can even borrow clothes chosen by you! You’ll also have more storage space – up to 9000 items – and Mr. Resetti has expanded storage options. If you have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, you can design and visit custom islands called Slumber Islands.
Hey, so Nintendo Switch Online is adding some cool stuff! I can grab retro consoles – and actually play games on them, which is awesome. Plus, they’re throwing in LEGO items to collect. If I get the new Zelda or Splatoon amiibo, I can bring those characters to my island, which is a nice bonus!
The latest updates to Animal Crossing: New Horizons should give players a fresh experience, particularly those who feel they’ve completed everything. They’re expected to keep fans engaged until the next major release.
