Supercell has announced it’s closing down Squad Busters. A last update will be released in December 2025, and players will be able to continue playing for a few months after that, with the game fully shutting down around mid-2026 or later.

Squad Busters servers will remain online until mid-2026 before the full shutdown

I was so excited when Squad Busters finally came out! It’s this really fun action game from Supercell that lets you play with characters from all their other games – Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars, and more. It had a bit of a journey to get here, actually. We first heard about it way back in early 2023 with a couple of beta tests, then it had a limited release in April 2024 before finally launching worldwide on May 29th, 2024. I’ve been playing it ever since!

The game quickly became popular and received good feedback for its lively combination of characters from the Clash, Brawl Stars, and Boom Beach worlds, as well as its enjoyable team-based gameplay. However, Supercell acknowledges that the game didn’t ultimately meet their high standards for long-term success, like those they set for their most popular titles.

The developers hoped the Heroes Update would significantly change the game’s course, but it didn’t address the fundamental problems. By the beginning of 2025, Supercell had to decide whether to continue working on Squad Busters or start focusing on new games.

They ultimately decided to stick with their original plan, wanting to create games people would still be playing and enjoying for years to come. The introduction of Heroes with the May 2025 ‘1st Anniversary’ update—and the “2.0” changes that came with it—caused a lot of disagreement among fans.

Players can transfer their existing purchases to other Supercell games

Starting October 30th, we’ve turned off in-app purchases. From November 10, 2025, you’ll be able to move any purchases you made in 2025 to another Supercell game you play. And for dedicated Squad Busters players, we’re offering free bundles and special crossover items in the Supercell Store until the end of 2025.

Players have had a variety of reactions to the news. While some were disappointed with recent updates, many expressed sadness that a game with so much promise was ending. Common sentiments included phrases like “It was a fun ride” and “It had so much potential,” reflecting the overall feeling among fans.

Supercell will publish a Q&A on November 13th to address player questions and provide more details about their decision. They’re also looking into ways to fully develop the story of Squad Busters and are accepting questions through this form.
