Official Avengers: Doomsday Teaser Reveals 2 Major X-Men In the Movie

Okay, so Marvel wasn’t exactly dropping huge bombs at Destination D23 this year, but they did give us a little something for Avengers: Doomsday. They released a really cool teaser trailer, and honestly, I was stoked to see them focus on two big names from the old Fox X-Men movies. It definitely got me hyped!

At Disney’s D23 Expo on August 30th, Marvel Studios showed a fast-paced teaser for Avengers: Doomsday. It combined shots of the cast being introduced with clips and lines of dialogue from their Marvel characters. Notably, the teaser highlighted the returns of Patrick Stewart as Professor X and James Marsden as Cyclops, both originally X-Men characters from Fox, for the upcoming Avengers 5.

Cyclops’ line, “If anything happens, I’ll take care of them,” comes from the 2000 film X-Men. Professor X’s quote, “a war is coming,” is from X2: X-Men United, released in 2003.

“There are forces in this world, both mutant and human alike, who believe that a war is coming.”

The upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, will feature a massive battle across multiple universes, pitting Doctor Doom against Earth’s heroes – including the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Wakandans, and the X-Men from the Fox universe. While details about the story and exactly how the X-Men will be involved are still unknown, the fact that Cyclops and Professor X were featured in the movie‘s teaser suggests they may be key leaders in the fight against Doctor Doom.

Patrick Stewart will reprise his role as Charles Xavier, and James Marsden will return as Cyclops, alongside five other familiar faces from the X-Men. These include Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and Channing Tatum as Gambit. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release in theaters on December 18, 2026.

Avengers: Doomsday X-Men Leaders Revealed?

It made perfect sense to include Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier when discussing the X-Men’s part in Avengers: Doomsday at Destination D23, as he’s the leader and founder of the team. But highlighting James Marsden’s Cyclops is a more unexpected and interesting choice.

As a huge X-Men fan, I was a little surprised to hear James Marsden is stepping up as a key leader in the next Avengers movie. Cyclops was always right there with Professor X, and Marsden played him so well in the original films. It seemed like Magneto, especially with reports of a new look for Ian McKellen in Avengers 5, would be the natural choice for a prominent role. But maybe they’re taking inspiration from X-Men ’97 and giving Cyclops the leadership position he deserves, especially with Xavier seemingly out of the picture. It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out!

With the Avengers and New Avengers operating as distinct teams, and many new heroes not belonging to any group, the big question is: who will now lead the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s heroes? If the X-Men, led by Professor X and Cyclops, join the mix, the Avengers might even be able to learn a thing or two from the experienced leaders at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.
