Fans are getting hopeful about a possible Silverchair reunion after members of the band interacted with each other on social media.
Daniel Johns, the lead singer, recently used Instagram to share information about his new short film, ‘What If The Future Never Happened,’ which is based on his own life experiences.
Johns shared two photos that showed him with actor Rasmus King, who plays Daniel in the short.
The singer is going on tour to show his short film and then have a one-hour discussion about his life and career.
Daniel described the images as feeling like a faded, distorted memory of childhood, comparing them to a worn-out VHS tape. He wrote, ‘What If The Future Never Happened? is like a VHS copy of a copy of your childhood rioting in your mind.’
The show blends truth and imagination, and it’s up to the viewers to decide what’s real. Newcastle and Brisbane performances are sold out, but tickets are still available for Sydney and Melbourne – check our bio for the link!

The post quickly received many comments from fans, including one from Ben Gillies, who used to be in the band Silverchair.
The drummer shared that Johns had shown Gillies an early viewing of the movie.
Ben told Dan he enjoyed the preview screening and wished him and the team all the best with the show.
Silverchair fans were surprised to see the post, considering that Daniel Johns, Ben Gillies, and bassist Chris Joannou reportedly had a falling out when the band broke up in 2011.
Gillies’ post received a lot of positive feedback, with many fans expressing their wish for the popular indie rock band to get back together and create music again.
‘That’s beautiful, man,’ one fan wrote.
Don’t worry about the music; I hope we can all stay friends and enjoy life together, looking back on it all with a good laugh. Friendship is the most important thing, and life is too short to not cherish it. Here’s to lasting connections – long live our group!
Someone else added a cheerful comment, saying it was wonderful to see the person and that it made them happy.

Someone else commented, ‘@bengillies888, this is fantastic! I’m sure you understand how much this means to fans.’
The comparisons didn’t stop there, as one fan pointed out that if Liam and Noel Gallagher can reconcile, Silverchair should be able to do the same.
‘If Oasis could reunite, Silverchair can do it too,’ they wrote.
Since their 2011 split, the relationship between the trio has been strained at best.
‘I wouldn’t get Silverchair back together for $1 million with a gun to my head,’ he said.
In 2023, Ben and Chris appeared on the Australian Story program on ABC television to discuss their upcoming memoir, Love and Pain.
Viewers were surprised to learn that ABC had taken down the first episode of ‘A Silver Lining’ from its streaming service, ABC iview, as announced by Australian Story on social media.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Silverchair’s Daniel Johns and his brother Heath, who leads BMG Music Australia, hadn’t authorized ABC to stream their music on iView.
Okay, so finally! John just had to explain everything on Instagram yesterday. It’s this long post, and basically he’s telling everyone why he wouldn’t let ABC use his songs. I’ve been waiting for him to address this for ages, and it’s such a relief to finally have the full story from him about why he made that decision. I’m so glad he spoke up!
‘I would have preferred to say nothing but here are the facts,’ he wrote.
On August 11th, the team at Australian Story contacted me to give me a heads-up that they were planning a story about [Gillies] and [Joannou]. I was – and continue to be – very supportive of their decision to share their experiences.
After filming wrapped, someone asked me to talk about what they did for the band. While I genuinely wished them well, I politely refused, and there was a specific reason why.
Johns wasn’t involved in the creation of Gillies and Joannou’s memoir and didn’t want to appear to endorse it without knowing its contents, particularly what it said about him. He felt uneasy ‘promoting’ something he hadn’t read.
Jackie Gillies, who is a celebrity psychic and Daniel Gillies’ wife, recently told Daily Mail that a Silverchair reunion could still happen.
‘I will say this: Never say never,’ she said.
‘I’m gonna tell you why. Because who people are today is not who people are tomorrow. Right?’
