5 Seconds of Summer unveil edgy new look as they’re immortalised on Walk of Fame

Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer showed they’re still hugely popular when they received a star on the Australian Walk of Fame on Wednesday evening.

A huge crowd of excited fans filled Sydney’s Entertainment Quarter at Moore Park to witness 5 Seconds of Summer – Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin, Michael Clifford, and Calum Hood – create concrete handprints, resulting in a lively and energetic scene.

The band, originally becoming well-known in 2011, looked like true rock stars while posing for pictures and meeting fans beneath the lights. Their style brought to mind the rebellious energy of ’90s pop-punk bands.

Luke sported spiked blond hair and a graphic tee under an oversized black blazer.

Drummer Ashton turned heads in a black jacket over a bold shirt that read, ‘Free Yourself.’

Okay, let’s talk style! I spotted Michael rocking his classic red hair and those cool dark shades – instantly recognizable, right? And Calum went for a more relaxed vibe with a striped button-down and aviator sunglasses. Both guys nailed effortlessly cool looks, but in totally different ways. It’s all about finding what works for your personality!

Even with all the excitement and chaos, the atmosphere was incredible when the band pressed their hands into wet cement, officially becoming a part of Australian music legend.

Guitarist Michael recently told the Daily Mail about the band’s history and their return to making music.

He explained the reunion was a group decision. ‘We all wanted this to happen and knew we’d keep it going,’ he said.

When asked how the band would react to their current success if they could see it back in 2011, Michael chuckled, saying they’d be incredibly surprised – but in a really good way.

I’m really enjoying life, especially being a dad – though it’s different when I’m here doing this. It’s amazing to see so many people show up, it’s incredible!

Oh my gosh, Calum just talked about the new album! He was practically glowing with excitement, and he hinted at some amazing details about ‘Everyone’s A Star!’! I can’t believe it’s actually happening – it’s coming out on November 14th! I’m already counting down the days!

‘We’ve got some beautiful people out here tonight to celebrate,’ he said. ‘It feels good.’

When asked who spearheaded the band’s recent creative direction, Calum playfully claimed responsibility, saying, ‘I’ll say it’s me. I feel like I’m involved in all the major decisions for Five Seconds of Summer – I’m kind of the go-to guy.’

He chuckled and said he thought the original 2011 Five Sauce team would be pretty surprised by how things have evolved. They’ve come a long way since the beginning, and it’s all been for the better.

Following the announcement of their new world tour and sixth studio album, ‘Everyone’s A Star!’ (releasing November 14th), 5SOS hosted a fan event on Wednesday.

The Everyone’s A Star! World Tour starts in Europe and the UK in March 2026. It will then travel to the US from May through August, before finishing with shows in Australia.

The band released a new single called “Telephone Busy” along with their announcement, building on the momentum from previous releases like “Not OK” and “Boyband”.

Their new project, ‘Everyone’s A Star!’, is their most daring yet. The group is experimenting with a unique sound, drawing inspiration from artists like N.E.R.D., Gorillaz, and The Prodigy, and mixing alternative rock with elements of future punk.

This album is the band’s first release of new music since 2022, and they’ve teased fans with a fresh, innovative sound and look.
