Rosie O’Donnell pleads for ‘prayers’ for estranged daughter Chelsea, 28, as she faces ‘scary’ new prison sentence

Rosie O’Donnell has publicly requested understanding and help for her daughter, Chelsea, who is battling addiction and now dealing with new legal issues.

On Wednesday, actress Geena Davis, 62, posted a touching photo on Instagram. The picture showed her daughter, Chelsea, now 28, as a baby. Davis adopted Chelsea as an infant.

Rosie O’Donnell shared a heartfelt message about her daughter, Chelsea Belle, writing that she loved her before addiction became a part of her life, and continues to love her now as she navigates a difficult road ahead. She asked for prayers and used the hashtags #addictionawareness, #love, and #family.

Us Weekly reports that Chelsea recently received a prison sentence on October 22nd after her probation was revoked earlier this month.

According to reports, a court official stated that Chelsea, who has been held in custody since September 9th, allegedly violated the terms of her treatment program due to accusations of sexual assault.

The official added that ‘Chelsea had not shown significant progress in the treatment drug program.’ 

According to court documents, the Marinette County Treatment Drug Court Team reviewed the details of this case and determined there was enough evidence to justify removing the individual from the program.

According to Us Weekly, Chelsea will be moved to Taycheedah Correctional Institution, a medium-security prison in Wisconsin.

Rosie O’Donnell expressed her ongoing sympathy and sadness in a statement to People magazine. She explained that Chelsea has faced a lifelong battle with addiction, which has been incredibly difficult for her and her four young children. O’Donnell shared that her family continues to love and support Chelsea during this challenging time and welcomes any prayers.

Chelsea’s struggles have been ongoing. 

In September 2024, she was initially arrested in Wisconsin and faced several serious charges, such as neglecting a child and possessing methamphetamine.

A month after being released on bail, she was arrested again and faced new, more serious charges. These included failing to appear in court as required (bail jumping) and interfering with a police officer.

In November, a third arrest occurred when authorities found methamphetamine and other narcotics in his possession. He was also charged with failing to appear in court as required.

In March 2025, Chelsea admitted guilt to three felonies: resisting a police officer, failing to appear in court as required, and possessing methamphetamine. She received a six-year probation sentence, with two years dedicated to each charge.

Her misdemeanor charges for drug paraphernalia and narcotic possession were dismissed at the time.

As part of Chelsea’s probation, she had to stay completely sober. It was also a strict requirement that she avoid anyone she knew who used or sold drugs, and she wasn’t allowed to have alcohol, guns, or any illegal drugs – unless she had a valid prescription, of course. I’ve been following her journey closely, and it’s amazing to see her taking these steps so seriously.

Despite those terms, court documents confirm her probation has since been revoked. 

Chelsea is a busy mom to four young kids: six-year-old Skylar Rose, four-year-old Riley, three-year-old Avery Lynn, and her one-year-old son, Atlas, who just celebrated his first birthday.

In a 2024 Instagram post, O’Donnell revealed that Chelsea had been arrested again, after previously being helped by her birth mother. The arrest involves multiple charges linked to Chelsea’s struggles with drug addiction, and O’Donnell expressed hope that Chelsea will get the support she needs to improve her life.

Chelsea told DailyMail.com last year, while in jail, that her mother had deliberately chosen not to help her get released, taking a firm stance.

Chelsea explained that when she asked Rosie for help, Rosie refused, saying, ‘You deserve to be where you are.’ Rosie was afraid that if she helped Chelsea, Chelsea might harm herself, and she didn’t want to feel responsible if that happened.

It just… it broke my heart. Seriously. My own mom seemed way more invested in helping those awful Menendez brothers get out of prison than she was in me. I remember being so angry and confused. I told her, ‘Mom, I’m struggling with drugs, I need help, I need rehab!’ But she just… didn’t seem to care as much. It was like she thought my problems weren’t as important. I kept saying, ‘I didn’t do anything like they did! I just need help to get clean!’ It was so frustrating, she was focused on them when I was the one who needed her.

In 2024, a spokesperson for Rosie O’Donnell shared with Us Weekly that her family is wishing for her to receive the support she needs.
