Adrian Portelli has publicly criticized The Block after its disappointing finale, where two of the renovated houses failed to sell at auction.
In July, 36-year-old Portelli revealed he was leaving The Block and Channel Nine to join the competing show, My Reno Rules, on Seven.
‘They’re [The Block] completely out of touch and unrealistic,’ he told news.com.au on Wednesday.
The Block promotes its homes as a great chance for families to own a piece of television history, but in reality, these houses aren’t practical for most Australian families, he explained.
These items are clearly targeted at the extremely wealthy. It’s hard to imagine anyone bidding on them knowing they’ll be up against billionaires.
Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! Apparently, after Britt and Taz, that AMAZING couple from Western Australia, sold their house – seriously, it’s like something out of a magazine – for a whopping $3.41 million, some guy named Portelli had to say something! I mean, it’s just… incredible. Everyone’s talking about it, and now Portelli’s chiming in too. I’m obsessed with their style, and that sale price is just… chef’s kiss!

After starting with $2.99 million, the couple won a total of $520,000, including a $420,000 prize and a $100,000 bonus.
So, I was hearing some interesting things – apparently, this guy, who’s 36, says he actually took the idea for Seven’s new renovation show, ‘My Reno Rules,’ over to Nine. He claims he presented it to them, but they weren’t interested. It’s always a bit surprising when something like that happens, isn’t it?
Portelli explained that the project was originally planned with Channel Nine, but they ultimately decided against it. He said this rejection was the main reason he left The Block.
It’s not the first time Portelli has lashed out at The Block.
Just as news broke that only three of the five renovated homes on The Block in Daylesford had sold, Sharon Portelli publicly celebrated the show’s disappointing auction results on Instagram.
The businessman posted an image where the logo for the show The Block had been crossed out in red and replaced with Channel Seven’s logo and an advertisement for My Reno Rules.
Portelli shared his participation in MRR back in July and has been consistently promoting the show on his social media ever since.
The new show, from the makers of MasterChef, aims to compete with The Block. Four teams will go head-to-head renovating two dilapidated houses next door to each other in Melbourne.

Shortly after the show’s announcement, one of the construction workers quit, and there’s speculation about whether Portelli will appear on camera, despite previously stating his involvement in the project.
This successful entrepreneur, often called ‘Mr Lambo’, consistently uses social media to present himself as a prominent figure associated with the series.
Sources familiar with the struggling production have revealed to the Daily Mail that Portelli maintains a very low profile and is rarely seen working behind the scenes.
Seven announced last month that Portelli will be in charge of the show’s live prize giveaway.
