Katherine Ryan shared a frightening story on her podcast this week about a home burglary. She explained that her husband, Bobby, actually came face-to-face with the intruder, who was armed with a knife.
I was so fascinated to hear the comedian – she’s only 42 and just had her fourth baby! – talking to Bobby about that crazy incident from 2019. Apparently, it really messed Bobby up – he couldn’t sleep for a week afterwards! It’s wild to think about how much that affected him.
On her podcast, What’s My Age Again?, she discussed a past burglary, explaining that she’s shared the story before and finds it deeply upsetting.
‘I know that you couldn’t sleep for about a week. We were home in our new house…’
Bobby described a strange feeling, explaining it was just the two of us, making pasta and sharing a bottle of red wine. He even playfully mentioned spilling some sauce on his shirt.
I thought I’d go change my shirt, so I headed upstairs to my room. That’s when I noticed some cufflinks on the bed and a few strange things I’d never even taken out of my drawer before.
‘So I grab a shirt, walk out of the room, and I come face to face with this masked man.
‘First words are, what the f*** and I took after him.’
‘He had your laptop in his arms I saw, so I chased him out the window.
He landed, then jumped down and ran into the neighbor’s garden. I saw where he went and then heard something moving in the bushes.
Let me tell you, it all happened so fast! I spotted the guy and quickly ducked behind some bushes. He hopped the fence, and I immediately went for him, managing to knock the laptop right out of his hands. That’s when things escalated and we ended up in a scuffle.
‘It seemed like it lasted a long time, but it was probably a minute long.
He started to adjust his pants, and I wasn’t sure if he had a weapon. That’s when I decided to end the struggle, as I had already brought him down.
Katherine added: ‘Well, he was saying, I’m gonna f****** kill you.’
Bobby explained that things escalated quickly, saying, ‘The knife suddenly appeared, and I was shocked. We ended up outside, and luckily, a police officer happened to be driving by. I immediately pointed the guy out to the officer.’
‘So the cop chased after him in the car down this little laneway and I gave up my pursuit.’
Okay, so this is a wild story! I saw a video circulating, and the caption said it all: this woman’s husband, Bobby, simply went to grab a fresh shirt and ended up stumbling upon a burglar in their home. Can you imagine the shock? It really highlights how quickly things can change and the importance of home security, honestly.
Katherine recently posted cute photos on Instagram celebrating her first week with her new baby daughter, Holland Juliette Kootstra, on Friday.
Her and Bobby confirmed the arrival of their baby girl last week.
Katherine looked beautiful and happy while having lunch at a pub, gently holding her new baby.

Katherine and Bobby are already parents to four-year-old Fred and two-year-old Fenna. Katherine also has a sixteen-year-old daughter, Violet, from a previous relationship.

The comedian filmed her stand-up special, Katherine Ryan: Telling Everybody Everything, with her newborn daughter, Holland, just a few days after giving birth.
The couple welcomed their new baby at The Portland, a private hospital, and the care cost them around £10,000.
A few days later, Katherine discussed the day on her podcast, revealing personal stories, including an awkward encounter with a doctor she found attractive, who she referred to as ‘Pat’.
Katherine shared that she was presented with a list of pain relief options, including opioid medications, to choose from during labor.
Katherine began the clip by saying, ‘This is the story of our child’s birth. What ranking would you give it?’
Bobby then said: ‘So this one, we scheduled it. And it went according to plan and no problems.’
Katherine described Holland’s arrival as surprisingly easy. She explained that they had a plan in place: if she didn’t go into labor naturally by Friday, a doctor – a well-known obstetrician named Pat, who she described as ‘lovely and handsome’ – would induce it.
We’re not revealing his full name, but people familiar with the situation will immediately recognize who we’re talking about. It’s someone you definitely don’t want to cross – he’s incredibly intimidating.
Bobby then quipped: ‘How’d that go?’
Katherine explained she wasn’t feeling well, and in a very personal detail, described experiencing a sensation of bubbling during labor. She realized too late that this meant the baby was crowning – they had been referring to the baby as ‘Fenna,’ and she was now in the final stage of labor.
I was standing by the bed and thought, ‘Maybe I could get a shot of diamorphine.’ The nurse said she’d ask another colleague, Pat, if it was possible.
She left, then returned, and Pat told me he wasn’t even going to bother checking on me, but said I could get the shot. I told him that actually, he needed to come check me right away.
I decided to lie down on the bed and remove my trousers. Fortunately, Miriam and Pat came in at that moment, and he happened to be nearby outside.
Bobby mentioned he was relieved the father-to-be was out getting coffee, because by the time he returned, the mother was already on the bed with the doctor and midwife – they’d only been there for about three minutes.
Katherine candidly added: ‘Yeah, and I knew I s*** myself.’
Bobby continued, explaining that they immediately tried to downplay the situation, acting as if he couldn’t be certain of what happened. Even while dealing with pain medication, he was sure of his recollection.
