In a recent interview, Cary Elwes, a star of the Saw movies, suggested he might return for another film in the series. He shared this news with TopMob while promoting his new movie, Dead Man’s Wire. This comes as Blumhouse Productions joins Lionsgate in producing the Saw films, and original co-creator James Wan will be involved creatively for the first time since the third movie.
Cary Elwes said he’d be open to returning for Saw 11, particularly if James Wan is involved creatively. He told TopMob he greatly admires Wan and hasn’t ruled out playing his famous character, Dr. Lawrence Gordon, again.
I’m a big fan of James. As for bringing Dr. Gordon back, that’s something decided by people higher up, not me.
After Russ Milheim from TopMob mentioned fans would enjoy seeing him reprise his role in a future film, Elwes confirmed he would definitely be open to returning.

Ever since starring as Dr. Gordon in the first Saw movie in 2004, Cary Elwes has had a complex connection to the series. The film, which was made on a small budget of just over $1 million, became a huge international success, earning over $103 million and starting a very popular horror franchise.
A year after the film’s release, Cary Elwes sued the producers, alleging he hadn’t been paid his full share of the profits. Though the issue was resolved privately, it strained his relationship with the franchise.
Even though their relationship had been difficult, Cary Elwes surprised audiences by returning in Saw 3D, the seventh film in the series. He once again played the character of Gordon, and the movie finally explained what happened to him.
However, in recent years, Elwes hadn’t shown much desire to return to the Saw series and didn’t appear in the newest film, Saw X, which featured Tobin Bell.
Since Gordon’s fate wasn’t fully resolved and James Wan is directing the next film, fans are speculating whether actor Cary Elwes might return in Saw 11.
What’s Next for Saw 11?
Following the positive reception and financial success of Saw X, the Saw franchise appears to be gaining new momentum. The film made $125 million despite costing only $13 million to produce, and critics appreciated its focus on the original spirit of the series and the prominent role given to Tobin Bell as Jigsaw.
However, getting Saw 11 made hasn’t been easy. Initially planned for release in 2024, then 2025, the film was eventually removed from Lionsgate’s schedule because of disagreements within the company.
Since then, Blumhouse has taken full ownership of the Saw franchise and is working with Lionsgate on upcoming movies. Jason Blum hinted at a fresh take on the series, collaborating with Saw co-creator James Wan. While there’s no confirmed release date yet, Wan’s involvement has excited fans and suggests a new chapter for Saw, potentially with or without Cary Elwes returning.
