Lily Allen is now addressing the rumors surrounding her ex-husband David Harbour and a woman named Madeleine, after reportedly writing a song inspired by his infidelity.
The 40-year-old singer recently released a new album about her divorce, and one song specifically addresses her husband’s infidelity. She names the person he had an affair with as ‘Madeleine’ in the lyrics.
In the song “Tennis,” Lily references a woman she questions her partner about after discovering a text from her on his phone.
Although Lily has explained that the character ‘Madeleine’ is based on several different people, she hesitated when directly asked about her in a recent video.
At her album launch event, which was captured on video, Lily was challenged by reporter Amelia White to identify her own songs after performing just the lyrics.
She accurately identified several of her own songs, such as “Not Fair,” a cover of The Kooks’ “Naïve,” “Cheryl Tweedy,” “Friday Night,” and “Pussy Palace.”

I was really surprised when the interviewer suddenly asked Lily, ‘Who the heck is Madeleine?’ You could tell it threw her for a loop – she paused for a moment, but thankfully got the answer right in the end.
In this deeply personal album, the singer confronts her ex-partner David’s cheating. She expresses her distrust with the line, ‘I can’t trust anything that comes out of his mouth,’ and repeatedly questions, ‘Who is Madeline?’
This news follows a difficult period for Lily, after her marriage ended in December. She had accused her husband, David, of multiple affairs, including a three-year relationship with a younger costume designer.
And now there is one question on everyone’s lips – who is the real Madeline?
People are suggesting Lily’s new song is similar to Beyoncé’s ‘Becky with the good hair,’ which appeared on the 2016 song ‘Sorry’ – a track widely believed to be about infidelity.
It’s suspected that Madeline is a pseudonym Lily has used for legal reasons.
Many fans thought the lyric was about rumors that Beyoncé’s husband, Jay-Z, had been unfaithful with someone nicknamed ‘Becky,’ and people quickly started trying to figure out who she was online.
As a lifelong Dolly Parton fan, one song always hits me right in the feels: ‘Jolene’! It’s from 1973, and honestly, the way she pleads – ‘Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, I’m begging of you, please don’t take my man’ – is just so raw and relatable. It’s a classic for a reason!

And it seems Lily has penned the new ‘Jolene’ – but this time she is called Madeline.
In the song ‘Tennis,’ Lily uses the sport as a symbol for intimacy, expressing regret over a message she received, as heard in the line: ‘So I read your text, and now I regret it.’
I don’t understand how you’ve been spending your time playing tennis. If it was just a physical relationship, I wouldn’t feel jealous.
‘You won’t play with me and who the f**k is Madeline?’
Okay, so the song just fades out with this haunting ‘Da, da-da, da-da, who’s Madeline?’ over and over, and it gets stuck in my head instantly! Then, right at the very end, it’s like a whispered question – ‘No, but who is Madeline, actually?’ It’s driving me crazy, I need to know!
The song focuses entirely on the affair, implying they had an open relationship where sexual encounters outside the partnership were allowed, as long as they remained casual and lacked emotional involvement.
Many fans are unaware that Lily didn’t write her entire album herself. Other songwriters contributed, and Violet Skies even publicly claimed credit for some of the songs on Instagram.
Violet shared a thrilled announcement: Lily Allen’s new song, ‘West End Girl,’ is available today. She revealed she co-wrote six songs for it with an amazing team of friends and collaborators.

Lily truly gave everything she had, and then some. It’s rare to find an artist who is so open, gifted, skilled, honest, insightful, humble, and humorous.
Huge thanks to Blue and Kito for leading the team and making the last ten days so amazing!
I’m incredibly proud of these songs, and a big reason why is because I got to make this album with friends I’ve known for years. I really hope you’ll listen to the whole thing from beginning to end! ❤️
I wrote: Madeline, Sleepwalking, Let You W/in (my fave), Dallas Major, Relapse and Beg For Me.
Underneath Lily replied and wrote: ‘brit girls bringing it home x’.
Lily Allen collaborated with several producers – including Seb Chew, Kito, and Blue May – while creating her latest album.
She collaborated with a range of producers on the album, including Alessandro Buccellati, Leroy Clampitt, Chrome Sparks, Jason Evigan, Micah Jasper, Oscar Scheller, and Leon Vynehall.
