Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 4 Gets Update From The Batman 2 Co-Writer

As a huge Spider-Man fan, I’m excited to hear there’s still a chance we might see Tobey Maguire back in the suit for Spider-Man 4! Mattson Tomlin, who’s working on The Batman – Part II, recently hinted that his pitch for the movie is still being considered, which is a really encouraging sign.

Mattson Tomlin says he hasn’t received a ‘no’ yet on Spider-Man 4

Screenwriter Mattson Tomlin updated a fan on the status of his Spider-Man 4 pitch, which would have starred Tobey Maguire. He said that while it’s facing challenges, the project isn’t completely off the table.

He acknowledged that progress is likely to be slow and depend on factors outside of his control, stating, ‘It’s a marathon, not a sprint, and involves a lot of moving parts.’ Despite the challenges, he remained optimistic, adding, ‘So far, no one has ruled it out!’

Tomlin has publicly stated he wants to continue the Spider-Man story in a realistic way, building on Sam Raimi’s original trilogy. He’s shared his idea of seeing Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker balance being Spider-Man with the responsibilities of fatherhood. In a July 2025 post on X, he said this is the direction he’s most interested in, considering the last eight Spider-Man movies.

A fourth Spider-Man movie starring Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker and directed by Sam Raimi was initially planned for release in May 2011. But due to differences in creative vision, Sony canceled the project and instead chose to restart the series with a new film, The Amazing Spider-Man, starring Andrew Garfield, in 2012.

Both director Sam Raimi and actor Tobey Maguire have indicated they’d be willing to revisit the Spider-Man franchise. Raimi mentioned in 2022 that the Marvel multiverse opens up endless possibilities, while Maguire expressed his enthusiasm in a 2023 special feature for Spider-Man: No Way Home, saying he’d jump at the chance to reprise his role, even just to hang out with the team. However, Sony Pictures has not yet commented on Tomlin’s remarks.
