The comic features Sherlock Holmes as a genuine detective who influenced Batman’s development as an investigator. This Holmes is over a century old, and Batman is surprised to find him still living. Holmes explains that he intentionally called for Batman’s help and quickly figured out who he was.

Batman’s creation drew inspiration from characters like Sherlock Holmes, classic pulp heroes such as The Shadow, and historical figures like Robert the Bruce.
