Donnie Wahlberg Addresses Tom Selleck’s Feelings & Return Chances to Spinoff Blue Bloods

Although Blue Bloods finished in 2024, the world of the show continues with its new spin-off, Boston Blue, led by Donnie Wahlberg. He recently shared what Tom Selleck thinks of the new series and hinted at the possibility of a future guest appearance by the original star.

Mark Wahlberg recently told Parade magazine that he discussed the possibility of Tom Selleck, who plays his on-screen father Frank Reagan, visiting him on the set of ‘Boston Blue.’ Wahlberg said he spoke with Selleck right away and, while he didn’t share specifics, Selleck was encouraging about the idea.

Mark Wahlberg would definitely welcome the opportunity to work with Tom Selleck again on ‘Boston Blue.’ He’s hoping either Selleck could visit Boston for the show, or that his character could travel to New York to see Selleck’s character, Frank.

Mark Wahlberg didn’t directly say Tom Selleck would join the series, but he’s hopeful it will happen. He explained that Selleck always chooses projects based on the quality of the work, and Wahlberg is confident they’ll eventually come up with a compelling idea that interests him. He said he’d love to work with Selleck on the show when the right opportunity arises.

Frank Reagan, played by Tom Selleck, might not be the only familiar face appearing in the show. Mark Wahlberg mentioned they’re hoping to include other members of the Reagan family and characters from Blue Bloods when it fits the story. Bridget Moynahan has already joined the cast, reprising her role as Erin and also directing an episode.

I just started watching “Boston Blue” on CBS, and it’s looking like a solid show with a planned 20 episodes. The story centers around Danny Reagan, played by Wahlberg, who’s moved into a new role at the Boston Police Department. What really kicks things off is a case involving his son, Sean – young Mika Amonsen plays him – that gets Danny deeply involved.
