I’m so excited about the news! Marvel Studios has officially confirmed that Ruaridh Mollica will be playing Tommy Maximoff, also known as Speed, in the upcoming VisionQuest series. We first met Tommy in WandaVision and again in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with Jett Kylne, but Agatha All Along revealed a really cool backstory. It turns out the kids Wanda created weren’t just illusions – their souls were real and have been reborn! Billy is now William Kaplan (played by Joe Locke) and is Wiccan, and Tommy’s soul ended up in Thomas Sheppard. Now, we finally get to see what happens with Thomas in VisionQuest, and I can’t wait to see Ruaridh bring this character to life!
This latest hint at a future Young Avengers team isn’t the only interesting thing happening in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It continues a peculiar trend: Marvel seems to enjoy casting actors who once played love interests as siblings, as seen with the Maximoff family. It’s only happened twice so far, but it’s definitely a strange coincidence!
Casting Former On-Screen Couples as Siblings in the MCU

Warner Bros. Pictures
Okay, so this is wild! Ruaridh Mollica is currently killing it in a play called Clarkstone over in London’s West End, and he shares some seriously sweet scenes with Joe Locke – they’re playing love interests. Now, Joe Locke, as you probably know, is Billy Maximoff/Wiccan in the MCU, starting with that Agatha All Along show. But get this – Ruaridh Mollica just landed the role of Speed in the VisionQuest series! That means these two are going to go from making out on stage to playing siblings within a year. Honestly, the whole thing is a bit of a head-spinner, and even they’re finding it funny! Joe actually posted a TikTok of them looking super awkward at each other with the caption, “When you find out the guy you’ve been kissing at work every day is actually your twin brother…” It’s just…a lot! I’m already excited to see how they pull it off.
As a longtime Marvel fan, it’s fascinating to me how the family history of the Maximoffs keeps unfolding. It turns out Speed and Wiccan, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision’s sons, are actually reincarnations! Wiccan seems to have inherited his mother’s magical abilities, but Speed is different. He doesn’t get his powers from Vision; instead, he’s a speedster just like Wanda’s brother, Pietro Maximoff, or Quicksilver, who Aaron Taylor-Johnson played in Avengers: Age of Ultron. It’s a fun bit of trivia that Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson actually played a married couple in Godzilla a year before portraying siblings in the MCU!
As a Marvel fan, I always found the family dynamic between Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver interesting, but it got really weird when I learned about that storyline in the comics – the one where they were… well, let’s just say it was a messed up relationship. I was so relieved Marvel Studios stayed far away from that! But it was still a little odd seeing Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson play siblings when they’d been a married couple in a movie just a year before. Now it’s happening again with Ruaridh Mollica and Joe Locke, who played a couple before taking on the roles of the Maximoff siblings! It’s a strange coincidence. And speaking of what’s coming up, we can look forward to VisionQuest sometime in 2026!
