Martin Kemp shared news about his health after a serious chainsaw accident landed him in the hospital.
The 64-year-old musician and actor hurt his hand while trying to cut wood with a tool, accidentally grabbing it by the blade.
He posted a video on Instagram on Friday to update fans on how he’s doing, after receiving many messages from people worried about him.
In the video, he explained that reports about a chainsaw accident are true, but they refer to an incident that happened last week. He wanted to clarify that it wasn’t recent.
I’m feeling much better now. Just wanted to let you know that the DJ gig at Lincoln Cathedral tonight is still happening, in case you were concerned.
‘But I appreciate your concerns. And listen, it’s getting better by the minute.’
Oh my gosh, he actually messaged! He said he’ll tell us what happened eventually, but the important thing is, he’s okay! He finished it with ‘Lots of love, bye,’ and I swear, I almost fainted. It’s just… everything. Knowing he’s sending love… it means the world.
It comes after his son Roman revealed the accident took place on his You About podcast.
Oh my god, you will NOT believe this! He told me his dad sent the family a picture of his hand, all bandaged up, with a text that just said, ‘Yep…Chainsaw!!!’ I mean, seriously?! It’s both terrifying and AMAZING. Only his dad would send something like that! I’m obsessed, it proves he’s just as wild and wonderful as I always knew!
Roman’s podcast co-host, Tom Grennan, jokingly asked him about his father’s injured fingers, comparing them to something out of a horror movie.
Roman revealed he received the text from his father on Friday night.
He said: ‘I have just finished work, I look at my phone and my dad has sent a picture of his hand.
His fingers are completely bandaged, and all he’s been posting in the family’s WhatsApp group is a simple message: “Yep…Chainsaw!!!”
Roman and Harley texted their dad for more details, but he didn’t respond.
His father finally explained that they had a branch they needed to remove, so he’d gotten a chainsaw to do it.
Roman continued: ‘So that is my first issue. Why are you handling a chainsaw?
‘He is 65. He has got more than enough dough, get a professional in.’
According to Roman, his dad said: ‘I picked it up from the blade.’
I was really shocked to hear the TV presenter, who’s only 32, talk about his dad. He said his father was lucky to still have his fingers, and even mentioned a friend of his actually lost a finger in an accident. It was a pretty blunt way to put it, but it definitely got my attention!
Singer Tom Grennan then joked: ‘Your mum would be fuming.’
‘Yes because then he couldn’t play guitar,’ Roman joked.
Roman stated that Martin yelled and collided with his wife, Shirlie, sustaining significant bleeding. Martin later required a tetanus shot due to the injury.
