Does Jeremy Allen White sing in the Springsteen movie?

Jeremy Allen White’s new film about Bruce Springsteen, Deliver Me From Nowhere, is now playing in theaters. Many fans are wondering if White performs the singing himself. Unlike typical biopics, the movie doesn’t tell Springsteen’s whole life story – it focuses on a specific time in his career.

This film chronicles Bruce Springsteen’s process of writing and recording his 1982 album, Nebraska, and the challenges he faced in his personal life and career during that time.

I recently checked out Deliver Me From Nowhere, and it’s getting a lot of good buzz! It stars Jeremy Strong, who plays the manager and producer Jon Landau, and Stephen Graham as Bruce Springsteen’s dad, Douglas. It’s currently sitting at a 61% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, so it seems like a lot of people are enjoying it.

Does Jeremy Allen White sing in the Springsteen movie?

Because the movie is about music, it naturally features a lot of singing. Fans will be happy to hear that actor Jack White performs all the vocals himself when portraying Bruce Springsteen.

I’m so excited about this role, and I’ve been working with an amazing team to get my voice and musical skills up to par. I actually told GQ last year that I’ve got a really talented group helping me prepare – they’re incredible!

Jack White recently shared the story of how Bruce Springsteen agreed to let him sing on a track. He remembered a recording session where Springsteen approved of White’s version of ‘Mansion on the Hill’.

He explained to Entertainment Tonight that this happened around three months before filming began, and that Bruce Willis then gave him his approval. Bruce told him, ‘It sounds fantastic. You’ve captured my voice, but you’ve also made it your own – and that’s exactly what I want you to do with this movie.’

Right from the start, he gave me the freedom to shape the character and the story as I saw fit, and that meant a great deal to me.

Bruce Springsteen recently explained on The Graham Norton Show that a great performer truly connects with the emotion and meaning within a song. He said that this artist doesn’t just sing the notes, but embodies the feeling of the music, making the performance feel genuine and incredibly authentic.

Marc Maron, who plays Chuck Plotkin in the film, told The Hollywood Reporter that the first time he heard Glenn Close sing while in character was “really incredible.”

He also thinks he tricked Bruce, apparently. Bruce was actually unsure on a few songs if it was him or Jeremy playing – he really couldn’t tell the difference. Bruce told someone that directly, and I overheard it while we were filming, so I know it’s true.

Director Scott Cooper highly commended Austin White’s singing, noting that White had been working hard to embody Bruce through extensive lessons in singing, guitar, harmonica, and movement. Cooper explained that the full impact of White’s transformation wasn’t apparent until he saw it firsthand.

“It was like I was struck by lightning and it was one of the great experiences of my film career.”
