The first big DCU crossover movie may have been revealed in a new copyright trademark filing.
The new DC Universe (DCU), led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, launched in December 2024 with the animated series, Creature Commandos. This was followed by Gunn’s Superman film in July 2025, and the recent conclusion of Peacemaker Season 2 on HBO Max.
What could the DCU crossover movie be?
DC Studios recently trademarked the name “Salvation Run,” according to Knight Edge Media. This doesn’t guarantee a movie based on the storyline is in development, but it’s a strong possibility, particularly after how Season 2 of Peacemaker ended.
The second season of Peacemaker concluded with John Cena’s character, Christopher Smith, being abducted and sent to a planet called Salvation. Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. plans to turn this planet into a prison for people with superpowers.
The DC Comics miniseries Salvation Run, created by Bill Willingham and Lilah Struges with art by Sean Chen, Walden Wong, Joe Bennett, and Belardino Brabo, tells the story of a group of DC’s most dangerous supervillains. They are banished to the planet Cygnus 4019 and must learn to survive in a completely new environment.
James Gunn and Peter Safran likely intend to explore the ‘Salvation’ storyline hinted at in the Peacemaker season finale. However, the recent copyright filing might simply be a precautionary measure by the studio. This story could unfold across various DC Universe films and TV shows, like ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ without necessarily leading to a large crossover event. Additionally, Knight Edge Media suggests the trademark filing could be related to the already-planned Bane/Deathstroke movie.
We’ll probably get a much better understanding of the DC Universe’s long-term plan in 2026 when the HBO show Lanterns, the Supergirl movie directed by Craig Gillespie, and James Watkins’ Clayface film are released. Currently, DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures haven’t announced any plans for a Salvation Run crossover movie.
