2025 has already given us a lot of fantastic action movies, and fans and critics have been particularly excited about the Japanese anime film, Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc. Originally released in Japan on September 19th, the dark fantasy action movie is now coming to North American theaters this weekend, and audiences are thrilled. Early reviews show it’s even better than the popular film Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle.
The new movie, Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc, has received perfect scores from critics, earning a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers praise its loyalty to the original manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, which is already hugely popular. However, if you haven’t read the manga or aren’t familiar with the story, you might find the movie confusing, so it’s a good idea to get a quick overview beforehand. As John Kirk of Original Cin notes:
This movie isn’t easy to follow if you haven’t read the source material beforehand. However, it stays true to the original story, and it’s great to see the filmmakers show respect for the comic book creators.
Fans of Chainsaw Man will find a similar energy here, as Allison Rose of FlickDirect points out the show’s ability to blend intense action with surprising emotional depth and stunning visuals. Cain Noble-Davies adds that while the show is initially captivating due to its violence and action, it ultimately resonates because of its exploration of compassion and human connection. Wilson Chapman of IndieWire further highlights the show’s strong emotional center.
This anime series is among the best adaptations of recent years, and its touching, yet sad, story of young love is guaranteed to pull at your heartstrings.
