Hollywood star Tom Hanks goes incognito in a mask as he rides the subway in New York City

New York City subway passengers were surprised to see a major Hollywood star riding with them.

Most passengers didn’t realize Tom Hanks was on the train with them, as he cleverly disguised himself with an exam mask that hid his famous face.

The 69-year-old Academy Award winner dressed casually in an olive-green jacket and a dark green beanie while riding the subway on the 6 train.

Tom Hanks, whose daughter E.A. recently shared her difficult experiences growing up after her parents split, wore a fashionable jacket with a green cardigan and matching cap. He completed the look with dark pants and black leather boots.

He completed his look with a green messenger bag that coordinated with his clothes, and a stylish pair of clear plastic glasses.

Someone who saw the Saving Private Ryan actor reported that he seemed to fumble his bag after nearly getting off at the wrong station.

Hanks is far from the first celebrity to try to go incognito in public. 

With more people wearing masks since the start of the pandemic, celebrities now have a convenient way to hide their faces, while also protecting themselves and others from the virus.

Celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio and Jared Leto often use masks to avoid being recognized in public. Others, such as Jessica Alba, prefer hats, sunglasses, or even going without makeup to maintain their privacy when traveling.

Tom Hanks most recently appeared in Wes Anderson’s darkly humorous film, The Phoenician Scheme. The movie features Benicio Del Toro as an arms dealer with questionable ethics who’s trying to finalize a major deal while also avoiding assassination.

Tom Hanks and Wes Anderson previously worked together on the movie Asteroid City. In that film, Hanks had a funny, small part playing one of two brothers who make a deal with a character played by Guillermo del Toro. Bryan Cranston played Hanks’ on-screen brother.

Tom Hanks, famous for his role in Forrest Gump, is set to reprise his voice acting role as Woody in Toy Story 5. He’ll be joined by Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear and Joan Cusack as Jessie for the new film.

The team’s last film was Toy Story 4 in 2019, and many people thought it was intended as the final movie in the series.

It was a really intense and gripping story, and I’m thrilled at the possibility of seeing him reprise that role.

The movie on Apple TV+, a passion project for the actor who’s always been fascinated by World War II, was very well-received by both audiences and reviewers. Details about a follow-up film haven’t been released yet.

Although Tom Hanks has a long history of supporting and appearing with the US military, he recently faced some trouble. A ceremony planned by the West Point alumni association to celebrate him was unexpectedly canceled in September.

He was receiving the Sylvanus Thayer Award, given by the West Point Association of Graduates to people who aren’t West Point graduates but exemplify the values of ‘Duty, Honor, Country’ – the academy’s core principles.

In a surprising announcement to its members, Retired Army Col. Mark Bieger, president and CEO of the organization, revealed they were canceling their planned recognition of actor Tom Hanks. This decision follows criticism from conservatives online who disapproved of Hanks’ portrayal of a Trump supporter as unintelligent and prejudiced on Saturday Night Live earlier this year.

As a long-time supporter of the Academy, I was pleased to read that this decision will allow them to really concentrate on what matters most: training cadets to become strong, effective leaders and warriors for our Army – the best fighting force in the world. It’s about ensuring they’re fully prepared to lead and win, no matter the challenge.

It’s unclear if Hanks still received the award despite the event being canceled. 

Some observers believe the cancellation was likely due to political reasons, possibly to appease President Donald Trump, given Tom Hanks’ support for Democratic politicians and related organizations.

Trump didn’t address those worries when he publicly celebrated the cancellation of the awards show.

Former President Trump announced on his social media platform that West Point has canceled an award ceremony honoring actor Tom Hanks. He stated this was a good decision, emphasizing that they don’t want to give awards to people he considers to be overly focused on progressive social issues.

Trump expressed hope that the Academy Awards and similar awards shows will re-examine their rules to ensure fairness and justice.
