Kevin Federline fears time is running out for his ex-wife Britney Spears.
In his new memoir, You Thought You Knew, Kevin Federline has made several shocking accusations about Britney Spears. He claims she would often drink heavily around their children and alleges that she once showed up at their door late at night wielding a knife.
The 47-year-old DJ is facing criticism after Britney Spears, 43, accused him of writing a book simply to make money from her story. This comes after Spears recently stopped paying child support for her sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden, 18.
In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Federline strongly denied those accusations, stating he’s repeatedly turned down offers exceeding one million dollars to share negative information about Spears.
He explained that concern for Britney Spears was a major factor in his decision to speak out, stating he was essentially reaching out for help himself.
We’ve been dealing with this privately for a while now, but I felt it was important to reach out and ask for help for the family, the children, and her. We really need support, and I’m worried about how much time we have.
It’s thought that Britney Spears’ unpredictable actions have caused a rift between her and her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden. They primarily live with their father in Hawaii and rarely see their mother, who lives in Los Angeles.
Kevin Federline explained that watching his ex-wife Britney Spears struggle with ongoing, unpredictable behavior – even after the end of her 13-year conservatorship in 2021 – has been deeply upsetting and frightening for him and his children, leading him to speak out publicly for the first time.
In 2008, Britney Spears was put under a court-ordered conservatorship, following a highly publicized period of personal struggles that included a public breakdown and shaving her head. This happened shortly after her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, was granted full custody of their two sons.
This week, Britney Spears revealed she experienced brain damage following a four-month stay in rehab in 2018.
Federline explained that Britney Spears’ conservatorship – where her father, Jamie Spears, managed her life and money – made him feel at ease with his children being near her.
He told the Daily Mail that everyone experiences difficult times in life. However, he only fully understood what his son had gone through after the conservatorship ended, and that’s what he details in his book.
‘And I was absolutely shocked and terrified.’
He added that people were concerned about her then, and still are now. Despite a lot of effort and private attempts to help, nothing has really improved at all.
I’m at a point where I need a change, or things could get much worse.
He admitted he wasn’t sure how to help his ex-wife, whether through rehab, therapy, or another legal conservatorship. He explained that many attempts had already been made, and he simply didn’t have the solutions.
I’m not claiming to have all the answers, but I definitely can’t just stand by and do nothing. I need to be involved.
Britney Spears and Kevin Federline married in October 2004 after a fast-moving romance. They had their first son, Sean Preston, in September 2005, and their second son, Jayden, in September 2006.
She started divorce proceedings two months after their second son was born, and the divorce was officially completed in July 2007.

Britney Spears has expressed concerns about when Kevin Federline decided to publish his memoir, noting it’s close to the one-year mark since she stopped paying child support for their son Jayden, who recently turned 18 and finished high school.
I’ve been following her career for almost twenty years now, and I remember reading that she initially received a whopping $40,000 every month! Can you believe it? Later on, it went down to $20,000, but even that is incredible. I’ve tracked every detail, and it’s just amazing to think about the financial support she’s gotten all these years.
Spears recently claimed that the author, and others, were attempting to make money from her difficult experiences after portions of his book were released.
‘If you really love someone then you don’t help them by humiliating them,’ she wrote on Instagram.
She also said he repeatedly manipulated her, making her doubt her own reality, which she found deeply upsetting and draining. She explained she’s always desperately wanted to maintain a relationship with their children.
She insisted that the small lies in the book were benefiting others while she alone was being harmed by them.
Okay, so everyone thinks it’s about the money, but honestly? I could have sold my story ages ago! I’ve been offered insane amounts – we’re talking seven figures, seriously – just to do one interview. But it’s not about that for me, you know? It’s… complicated. I just want what’s best, and the money doesn’t even matter.
But, he turned them down because it’s ‘not about the money.’
I get why people feel that way, especially since they’ve heard it for years, but this isn’t about finances. Honestly, going through all of this has really clarified my priorities, and money isn’t one of them.
Family is the most important thing. Money can buy possessions, but they aren’t relevant here. This situation is about something far more significant, and I really wish people understood that.
He stated he’s been communicating with some of Britney Spears’ family members, and believes they support his efforts because they’ve also been trying to help her through her difficulties.
Britney Spears is reportedly not on good terms with her father, mother Lynn Spears, and sister, Jamie Lynn.
He added that people are glad someone is finally addressing these issues, as they share his concerns.
Britney Spears shared on Instagram that one of her sons has only visited her for 45 minutes over the last five years, while the other has visited just four times during that same period.
Federline claims she’s seen both boys recently – Sean Preston visited her last Christmas, and Jayden about three or four months ago. She shared a photo of herself with Jayden at her house around that time.
Britney Spears has a fairly open line of communication with her sons, both of whom are musicians, but she feels their relationship isn’t as close as it should be.
He described the situation as constantly changing and needing improvement, but with a good foundation to build upon. He explained that his adult sons need to decide how to handle it themselves, and he doesn’t want them to be defined by it.
I’ve been following this story closely, and he’s made it clear he and his ex haven’t spoken in years. He actually said it’s been ‘a long time,’ and when pressed, confirmed it’s ‘definitely been some years’ since they last communicated. It sounds like there’s been a real distance between them for quite a while now.
Look, I’m not claiming to be perfect, but when my marriage started falling apart publicly, I really made a point of prioritizing what mattered most: my kids. I focused all my energy on them, which was a different approach than my ex took, it seems.
He explained that the book didn’t include everything that happened. He wants to share the full story because it’s important for him to be honest about his experiences.
