Good news for fans of the BBC comedy Amandaland – it’s been renewed for a second series! We’ll be revisiting the lives of Amanda, her mother Felicity, and her patient friend Anne when the new series airs in 2026.
If you can’t wait that long, a Christmas special featuring a surprise guest is arriving soon!
This episode will guest star Jennifer Saunders as Amanda’s Aunt Joan, the sister of Joanna Lumley’s character, Felicity. It marks the first time Jennifer and Joanna have acted together in a scripted role since their famous roles as Patsy and Edina in Absolutely Fabulous.

My Aunt Joan is totally the opposite of her sister. She’s all about that country lifestyle, super energetic, and just… really loud and confident in a fancy way. It’s kind of hilarious, honestly.
I’m so excited! Jennifer just announced she’s going to be in the Amandaland Christmas special, and I can’t wait! She’s playing Joanna’s sister, which sounds hilarious – you know a SoHa family reunion is always good for some laughs. This is going to be amazing!
Lucy Punch, who plays Amanda, shared her excitement about filming the second series of Amandaland with the fantastic cast. She described the upcoming Christmas special as incredibly fun and festive, promising a truly joyful experience for viewers. She playfully added that it will be a hit!
I’m so excited about this new show! It was created by Holly Walsh, and she writes it with Laurence Rickard, who you might know from Horrible Histories and Ghosts – he’s hilarious, so I have high hopes!
We’re thrilled to be returning to South Harlesden for a second series! It’s been a lot of work – six months of researching local council rules about illegal dumping, practicing an Irish accent, and writing the script – but we’re excited to start filming with our fantastic cast.
We’re so excited about our Christmas special, and Jennifer Saunders is a fantastic addition to the cast!
The BBC’s spin-off series, Motherland, quickly became a success, attracting over 7 million viewers for its first episode. It particularly resonated with younger audiences, bringing in 1 million viewers aged 16-34 – the largest new comedy audience in that age group for the BBC since The Cleaner in 2021.
Dates for the new series are yet to be announced, so keep your eyes peeled.
Amandaland airs on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
