Netflix will soon add Timothée Chalamet’s Wonka to stream

As a huge movie fan, I’m thrilled to hear that Wonka, with Timothée Chalamet, is coming to Netflix! Apparently, it’ll be available starting November 1, 2025, according to What’s on Netflix. It’s a musical fantasy that shows us how Willy Wonka became the eccentric chocolatier we know and love, before the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory even began. Paul King directed it, and I can’t wait to see it!

Wonka tells the story of a young, determined chocolatier trying to succeed in a competitive world. Despite having limited funds, he struggles after being tricked by influential people. He then teams up with Noodle and a diverse group of underdogs to overcome obstacles and build a thriving chocolate business.

The movie stars Timothée Chalamet, along with Calah Lane as Noodle, Paterson Joseph as Arthur Slugworth, Matt Lucas as Gerald Prodnose, and Mathew Baynton as Felix Fickelgruber. Critics generally loved the film, giving it an 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 333 reviews.

In a review for RogerEbert.com, Matt Zoller Seitz described the film as a lighthearted and enjoyable two-hour musical comedy. He noted that while the movie draws inspiration from Roald Dahl’s Wonka books, it doesn’t strictly follow them, aiming instead to entertain and bring moments of heartfelt emotion, particularly when the villains face setbacks. Seitz also commended Timothée Chalamet’s performance as the young Willy Wonka, highlighting his subtly nuanced acting.

Wonka, released in theaters on December 15, 2023, quickly became a hit, earning over $634.5 million around the world. Of that amount, $218.4 million came from the U.S. and Canada, according to Box Office Mojo.
