I Play Rocky First Look: Anthony Ippolito as Sylvester Stallone

I just saw a first look at the new movie I Play Rocky, and it’s incredible! They’ve found an actor, Anthony Ippolito, who really captures a young Sylvester Stallone – the photo shows him recreating a famous scene. It’s so uncanny! The film, directed by Peter Farrelly of Green Book, tells the story of how the original Rocky movie was made, and it looks like it’s going to be a really fascinating look behind the scenes.

Amazon MGM Studios has just released the first image of Anthony Ippolito portraying Sylvester Stallone in the upcoming film, I Play Rocky. You can see the photo below.

This image features a recreation of Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa running on the beach with his bull mastiff, Butkus, who also appeared in the Rocky films. The scene is a nod to a famous moment in Rocky III (1982) where Rocky trains with Apollo Creed. However, this version depicts Stallone wearing the gray running suit from the very first Rocky movie.

A new movie called I Play Rocky, starring Anthony Ippolito, is currently being filmed. The film is based on the true story of Sylvester Stallone and his determination to not only write the Rocky screenplay, but also to star as Rocky Balboa himself.

Just days after initial photos from the set of I Play Rocky revealed Anthony Ippolito’s impressive transformation into Sylvester Stallone, the first official images have been released. The film also stars Stephan James as Carl Weathers, AnnaSophia Robb as Stallone’s first wife, Sasha Czack, and Matt Dillon as Stallone’s father, Frank Stallone Sr.

The film also features P.J. Byrne as Irwin Winkler, the producer of Rocky, Toby Kebbell as Robert Chartoff, another Rocky producer, and Jay Duplass as the film’s director, John G. Avildsen. Sandy Letts portrays a character based on several Hollywood studio executives.

Written by Peter Gamble, the film I Play Rocky tells the story of how Sylvester Stallone, then a struggling actor in his late 20s, famously wrote the Rocky screenplay in just three and a half days. He was determined to star in the movie himself and turned down substantial offers – over $100,000 – before finally getting the film made on a shoestring budget of less than $1 million.

“I Play Rocky” tells the incredible story of how the movie Rocky became a huge success, earning over $1.9 billion across six films—including five sequels and the Creed series—and winning three Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It’s a classic underdog story that truly changed Hollywood.
