The war film *Tigerland*, originally released 25 years ago and not a commercial success, is coming to Hulu. It’s finding a new audience through streaming.
Okay, so I was really excited to see that Hulu is adding *Tigerland* on November 1st! It’s been 25 years since it came out, and I remember hearing good things about it, even though it didn’t make a huge splash in theaters back in 2000. It’s cool they’re giving it another life with all the other stuff hitting streaming services these days.
I recently checked out *Tigerland*, and it’s a really compelling film. It follows a group of army recruits, guys like Roland Bozz and Jim Paxton, as they get ready to ship out to Vietnam back in 1971. Bozz ends up leading a platoon, and the movie shows how he helps a few of the soldiers find ways to avoid actually going to war. The cast is fantastic, featuring Colin Farrell, along with Matthew Davis, Clifton Collins Jr., Shea Whigham, Russell Richardson, Afemo Omilami, Michael Shannon, and Nick Searcy – seriously, a lot of great actors in one film!
Joel Schumacher directed *Tigerland* and later worked with Colin Farrell again on the thriller *Phone Booth*. Schumacher was a successful director known for popular films like *Batman Forever*, *Batman & Robin*, and *The Phantom of the Opera*. The script for *Tigerland* was penned by Ross Klavan and Michael McGruther.
The movie was well-received when it came out and currently has a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Although critics generally liked *Tigerland*, it didn’t do well at the box office, particularly when compared to director Joel Schumacher’s other films like *Batman Forever*, which earned $336 million. *Tigerland* only made a little over $139,000 in the United States and about $148,000 worldwide, far less than $1 million.
How Tigerland Compares To Colin Farrell Box Offices
Colin Farrell has starred in many popular and financially successful movies, like *Minority Report*, which earned around $358 million, and *The Gentlemen*, which brought in $115 million. He’s also been part of major franchises, including the *Fantastic Beasts* series and *The Batman*. His latest film, featuring Margot Robbie, received a mixed response from audiences.
Colin Farrell has been in several war movies, including *Tigerland*, but none have been huge commercial successes. *Hart’s War*, a World War II drama with Bruce Willis and Terrence Howard, came out in 2002 but only made about $32 million. He also starred in *Triage*, a 2009 film by director Danis Tanović, playing a photojournalist, though it earned just over $563,000 worldwide.
I just saw that *Tigerland* is on Prime Video right now, but it won’t be there for long. Good news though – it’s heading to Hulu on November 1st, so you’ll be able to catch it there!
